Print News | Mail News | Category: Site News - Community News
We'd like to welcome SnowNut and his team from The World of Palladium II to our hosted site program and you can now find them at http://twpii.nwvault.ign.com/. The World of Palladium II will be a NeverWinter Nights 2 Persistent World and you can also check their gameworld listing for more info. Here's an overview:
The World of Palladium II will be a NeverWinter Nights 2 Persistent World, based in The Eastern Territories of Palladium. There will be close ties to the historical facets of the lands, races, and religions of Palladium. Rebuilt from the ground up as a Role-Playing World, you will find detailed lands stretching from the Coastal Shores over the Shattered Mountains to the Inland Sea. A variety of cities, villages, and outposts will provide an abundance of shelters for the wary travellers. Strange and magical creatures will be brought to life to provide a variety of challenges for bold adventurers. Stories of untold treasures, rune magic, and powerful weapons will unfold in an ever changing world.

Some examples of what we are planning::

* Eighteen Deities to choose from, providing a variety of factions and religions.
* Carryable corpses can be moved and resurrected while your offline.
* Non-permanent death ensures the fun never dies with your character.
* PvP is allowed and fully supported.
* Detailed areas to explore with various levels of challenge and life on the edge.
* A Dynamic Questing System with outcomes affecting other parts of the world and economic systems.
* Farming and Fishing systems provide non-combat enjoyment and experience.
* Customized Loot System with unique, one-of-a-kind items.
* An Action Based XP system where things you do, not the final kill, provide XPs.
* Weapons and Armor will not be indestructible; they must be repaired over time.
Welcome aboard guys! If you would like to have your site hosted for free, check out our hosted program for the details.

Actiontrip Reviews Neverwinter Nights 2  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: NWN2 - Official News
Actiontrip has posted their review of Neverwinter Nights 2 giving it a score of 84/100 which they describe as "Very Good". They list the highs as "Enough RPG goodness to keep you occupied for days, excellent audio" and the lows as "Nothing innovative in terms of gameplay (that we haven't seen from Obsidian before), technical setbacks, quirks in the AI, certain segments of the game seem visually outdated.". Here's an excerpt:
There's more to the game, of course, than the single-player campaign. You'll have plenty to do once you start fiddling around with the newly implemented toolset. Obsidian has left the field open for users to experiment and use their imagination to come up with diverse and exciting new adventures. We have yet to experience NWN 2 from the perspective of sharing modules and enjoying an endless choice of challenges.

With all this on offer, Neverwinter Nights 2 will surely keep RPG fans busy for a long time. You won't regret buying the game, especially if you've played through the original as well as the expansion packs. On the other hand, Obsidian obviously hasn't made any real breakthroughs, which is a bummer, really, seeing as the original brought quite a lot of fresh ideas to the RPG scene.
Thanks to Actiontrip's Ure “Vader” Paul for the heads up. You can find all NWN2 reviews here. If we've missed any please let me know.

      NWN2 Original Hakpaks

    • Non-english full voiceset by Qkrch(Other) - Spanish, french, german and italian NWN2 have only 4 voices translated into their languages. With this 2da installed into your Neverwinter Nights 2 ov

    • A more diverse color palette for half elves by Noviere(Code Modifications) - This 2DA override changes some of the skin/eye/hair color options available to half elves at character creation. The most significant change is skin/eye colors for half-drow, but there is also hair colors for half moon elves, and skin colors for half wood and sun elves.

    • 3.5 Edition PNP by Even(Code Modifications) - Simply place the files into your Override directory to have them take effect in the main campaign. Does a lot of things to make NWN2 closer to PNP.

      NWN2 English Modules

    • Tutorial Test by Languard(Multiplayer (1-4 Players)) - A test on the prolouge for the OC. Changed all conversions except for the into to non-cinematic.

      NWN2 UI

    • SLATE's Vertical Hotbar by SLATE(Major UI Change) - Due to popular demand, here is a vertical 2 column hotbar. I advise all spellcasters who use this mod to also get my Mini-spellbook mod.

      NWN2 Prefabs: Blueprints

    • Rod of Full Party Buffing by Loudent(Items: Miscellaneous) - This is a new type of fast buff rod. This one will allow you to re-buff your entire party as a single action. With the increase of henchmen in NWN2 it became apparant that the original rod didn't cut it any more because you were likely to cast spells on multiple characters *from* multiple characters.

      NWN2 Plug-Ins

    • Neverwinter Nights 2 Perforce Plugin by B1llK(Toolset) - Neverwinter Nights 2 Toolset Perforce Plugin This plugin provides an interface to Perforce for the toolset. Perforce is an excellent version control system (and so much more) for managing concurrent or non-concurrent development projects. It's a great solution for those who are looking for content management for their Neverwinter Nights 2 projects.

      NWN2 Scripts

    • Spell Duration Increase v0.5 by CWolf(Spells) - These scripts were written to increase the duration of most buff and summon spells in NWN2. When I came to NWN2 I found the spell durations were too short. I heard talk that 3.5 rules reduced the spell duration but in the end I play a game to enjoy it. Having to rebuff my druid every few seconds just isn't fun for me.
    Thanks for the submissions.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Patch 1.02 Now Live  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: NWN2 - Official News
After a some problems were fixed the 1.02 patch for Neverwinter Nights 2 is now live and you can update your copy by hitting the update button when you start the game. This patch fixes some important offcial campaign bugs. Here's an update from Obsidian Executive Producer, Darren Monahan
Darren Monahan - Executive Producer, Obsidian Entertainment -
    v1.02 (809) live!
    Hi everyone!

I'm pleased to announce that v1.02.809 is now live! Just a reminder, this version is just a hotfix to address the issue with companions wreaking some havoc on cutscenes and scripted events. This also includes updated multiplayer applications to the same version. We did fix one issue with the Server Monitor Console, where it would be possible for it to not run properly on Athlon XP's.

Stay tuned for more news on our 1.03 patch - that one includes a lot of bug fixes, improvements and even some new features (particularly on the DM Client side... database support, anyone? )

I would also like to take a moment to invite you to check out our mirror sites who have been helping to distribute the patches!

To update, simply run the game from your Start menu or Desktop, and click the "Update" option, and you should be on your way!

    More:
Alright, cool. Now I just need someone to host the thing, because I still can't update my NWUpdate. Click Here

Yes, I'm shamelessly trying to get someone official to see that post. But anyways, if someone would give me a link to the file, so I can download it, I can at least manually patch. Thanks!
Here you go, I whipped up a quick script to install the latest version for you.

    NWUpdate.exe v1.05

    More:
That is an odd error but I too would like to know the update on the critical rebuild patch.
Hi guys, since NWN2 is so much larger in terms of data sizes, we're talking internally on how to best provide you guys the ability to correct your installations should some of the data get out of whack. Hopefully some news soon.
Thanks also to Kandelai for the heads up. Also in case you missed it in the forum highlights below, Obsidian programmer Erik Novales, mentioned that the original NWN database system would be available in the next patch!

    Those of you with v1.02...
Sorry, that should have read "...and we'll take care of the multiplayer stuff...".

Assuming we pass QA today, we'll have that patch posted this afternoon and it will include updated multiplayer files (NWN2Server and ServerMonitorConsole) as well.

(...and we'll take of the multiplayer stuff in tomorrow's patch! )
    What exactly does this mean?

    Those of you with v1.02...
...and thanks everyone. I'm glad to see it's working fine for a lot of you. I sent out a number of PM's last night, and we're I think we're honing in on the crashes. I'm suspecting it's related to our copy protection and certain types of drive virtualization software that is installed on some of user's machines.

Sonic. It's a sonic screwdriver. And let me know when you're done with that, I'll be over here playing some games that work properly.
Although it will take a while for me to read "coding for dummies". Probably best I leave it to the good folks at Obsidian to fix it.

    More:
On the other hand, now I want to design a "Sonic Screwdriver +3" for my PnP game. 1d3 slashing damage +3 enchantment bonus and special ability 1/day Wish spell.
Glad to see I have inspired you to be creative, seems my job is done here.

More: I was kinda hoping you guys had ran out of the tar and feathers after the last time I came calling. Anyway...

BioWare did not ask me to put this post up, work colleages at Atari did and here it is. The reviews are in no particular order at all, just the one that was given to me. If you have more links to reviews then PM them to me and I will try and get them added to the list (have to ask a mod to edit it for me but sure they will be nice and kind).

As for the patch comments, Atari is just the publisher, Obsidian are the kind folks who are taking care of any bugs and issues. We set up a support forum so that we can gather feedback and try and get information out to people who prefer to use the Atari Forums (surprisingly some people actually prefer us).

Anyway, there is still a nice free spot on my right arm for anyone else who wishes to step up and splat me.....

How to finally make a pitch black interior!
    So...why are you doing this?

Lilac script generator work with NWN2? How about Loot scripts?
Just use it ... it doesn't use functions that came with NWN after patch 1.66 and therefore should be compatible like 99% of the time.
I think the main reason that people want a NWN2 version is so that it's more tightly integrated with the toolset. For example, it could both create scripts as well as assign them to objects in the same step, without any further user intervention.

    Plugin Authoring in J#
It's been mentioned before, but just as a reminder...you should be able to use any .NET language to write plugins for the toolset.

wait on mouse click to continue conversation?
Typically this is accomplished with a "Go on" player response. When the conversation advances to the next node, it places the text of the previous node at the top of the screen.

What happened to ingame database support?
This stuff will be in the next patch (not including hotfixes).

have to fix this: window focus shift while working with scripts.
This is fixed in the next patch.

Anthony Davis - Programmer, Obsidian Entertainment -
Can't get rid of the box, PLEASE help.
Can anyone post some steps on how to reproduce this? No one in our QA department has reproduced this to my knowledge.

Trial By Combat - Yet More Bugs *ANGER WARNING*
The funny thing is, in the tutorial, Georg will tell you how Cormick beat Lorne during the Harvest Brawl.

I think this is one of those boss fights people don't expect in NWN or DnD. We wanted to add fights that were more than auto-attack or mage-nuking.

These fights do require tactics and strategery( ), but our testers were able to beat him with every class (including a bard). I beat him with a rogue, though it I had to drink a couple of potions. Also, if you are a fragile class, for goodness sake use Khelgar or a party member. Khelgar can really take and dish out a beating.

The thing I find ironic, is that if we hadn't added fights like this, my money would have been on the forums being flooded with posts about how easy the game was.

OC (bug?) Stuck - Reforging the Sword (spoilers)
I've added a workaround to this problem which should be in the next patch.

So that you don't have to wait for the next patch to continue playing, try this...

Open the console with the ~ key and type the following text, hitting Enter after each line:

    DebugMode 1
    rs ka_hotspot_show("3090Nolaloth")
    DebugMode 0

Now when you go to the World Map, you should see a location for "Nolaloth's Valley."

Act 3-Path of the holy(bug) sword HELP!
This problem will be fixed in the next patch.

So that you don't have to wait for the next patch, try this workaround:

Press the ~ key to open the console, then type in the following text, pressing Enter after each line:

    DebugMode 1

Press the ~ key again to close the console. Now when you return to speak to Ivarr, you should be able to complete the quest

If you are on the Atonement quest (which suffers from the same problem) you can work around it by entering this into the console:

    DebugMode 1
    rs ga_global_int("31_nIvarrAtonement", "1")
    DebugMode 0

    RandyMyers,

Are you playing with Server Vault turned on? Or Local Vault? (Defined on the server-options screen when launching the game)

When your wife logs in, is she prompted to confirm if she wants to use the Save Game version of her character instead of her local copy of the character?

Are you playing on version 1.01 or 1.00?

Can you please mail the file for the character that is getting the illegal number of spells error to:
    nwn2bugs@obsidianent.com

Also, please mail the character file for your wife's character as well to
    nwn2bugs@obsidianent.com

    Enter the email subjects as:
    Attention Rich

If you are playing with Allow Local Characters, your wife's character should be in the Local Vault on her computer (Located in the My Documents folder). If you have Allow Local Characters turned off, the character file should be in the ServerVault on your computer (Located in the My Documents folder).

Multiplayer and the future of NWN2
Just weighing on this subject briefly:

First off, clients only need to download updates if you make changes that affect pathfinding. Placing down static placeables, adjusting the terrain of an exterior, etc.

Changing scripts, item properties, etc., will not require clients to update.

We are aware that the process of being able to host/join a hosted multiplayer game, PW or otherwise, is not as convenient as it could be. There will be improvements made to this stuff over time. As plans are still being evaluated (Including some of the suggestions in this and other threads) I can't be specific on what changes will be coming, but I just want to emphasize that this is not an issue that is being ignored.

    UI help: playermenu_popup.xml
I think the player menu may have a copy inside the campaign directory for the OC. .xml files placed inside the campaign directory will override the ones in the ui\ directory, so that might be why your change works everywhere but inside the OC.

UI - ScreenOpen & Custom Scenes
It's most likely that the test pane screen you made has a XML error in it. If you make a copy of the inventory screen and name it what your test pane is, does it work then?

Improving feedback on XML errors is a priority for one of the upcoming patches to help with this kind of thing.

Charles Mead - NWN2 Lead Scripter, Obsidian Entertainment -
    Scripted Waypoints
Quite right johnbgardner. That is a typo.
    It should read:

To Restart a creature walking waypoints, use:
    SetWalkCondition(NW_WALK_FLAG_PAUSED, FALSE);

    NPC Resume behavior after combat?
You might try setting X2_L_SPAWN_USE_AMBIENT as an int variable on the creature with a value of 1.

a chest full of items for each class?
NWVault has lots of information on basic scripting.

    Little Rusty, could use help
The Lexicon is an entirely community created site. It went down very recently, and many of us are very sad to see it go. Hopefully it will re-emerge, but in the meantime, there is a downloadable version on NWVault, as mentioned in this post:

    UniquePower?
    In brief:
    1. modify item property to cast spell: unique power
    2. create a script using the "Item Use" script template.

    Batch Compile
    File|Compile|All...

    Trouble with delay command, again
    Missing end parenthisis.
Also last two numbers must be floats.

    Conversation scripts not firing
I only know it because its happened to me so many times.

    Random() permanently seeded =(
This works the same as it did in NWN1.

Here's the specifics as mentioned in the Lexicon

The random number sequence is always the same for single player, but is usually different for multiplayer (assuming there is more than a single player playing in multiplayer mode).

    1. The random number seed is reset when you enter a new area. This is true for single and multiplayer.

    2. This seed is always the same for each area. The sequence for each area will be identical every time.

    3. This seed is some combination of bits taken from basic area information. If you create "identical" areas they will have the same seed, and therefore the same sequence. Obviously this is also true of copied areas.

    4. Bits are definitely pulled from the area height and width (in tiles) and the indoor/outdoor and natural/artifical flags. Changing any of these can change the sequence.

    5. Bits are not pulled from the areas tag, name, or resref. Changing these will not change the sequence.

    6. Bits might be pulled from the tileset field (not sure).

    7. There is a delay between the resetting of the seed and the calling of the OnAreaEnter script. During this period other scripts (heartbeats, perceptions, etc.) and maybe some hard-coded stuff can call the random number function, "consuming" the start of the sequence.

    8. If the module has nothing in it but the player character the sequence will therefore be identical everytime.

    9. If there is other stuff in the module the sequence will start at some point further down the list (as the first numbers have already been used). Since there is some variation in area load time etc.. this will be a random offset into the sequence. This is why it often looks like you have several sequences turning up, but really they are just different parts of the same sequence.

    10. The random seed works exactly the same in single player and multiplayer - at least when the multiplayer game only has one PC.

    Global Item Script
The closest thing to what you're looking for is what can be done w/ the script template "Item OnHit Cast Spell".

    Increasing Stats
There may be a debug mode command that can do this, but can't be done through scripting other than via an effect.

It's dissapointing that there has been no comment from anyone in a position to affect this problem.
I am not sure what kind of magic radar forum posting sense you think we all have. I was supposed to know about this thread... how?

As was pointed out we were running into a database bottleneck in the last little while and we put in a few fixes late on Tuesday, November 7th.

Please let us know if this issue is still occuring for you and we will keep attempting to resolve it.

    More:
I do suspect that Gamespy or Atari moved part of its server capacity from NWN1 to NWN2 and messed up.
GameSpy and Atari have absolutely nothing to do with the Master Server for NWN1 or NWN2. Its all us.

    More:
In this particular case, there is a link (3 posts above - by PJDodge) to another thread, that was very much on Bioware's radar.
I didn't say we weren't aware of the issue, I said I wasn't aware of this particular thread.

    Suggestion for improving website
Surely it's not a very large task to turn the table size to dynamic?
Every time a non-BioWare developer comments on the task effort to change something, God kills a kitten.

    Painfully Slow Downloads
How about now? Is it faster now?

Stanley Woo - Quality Assurance -
    Master Server Madness, Nov 3, 4, 5 ...
I hate you, jfoxtail, and by association, I also hate Toronto.

As Derek French implied, we don't check out every thread in every forum. If you are experiencing problems with the website (extended periods of slowdowns, inaccessible, broken links), we have a Web Site Help forum where you can post about it.

If you are experiencing problems with fellow community members (trolling, harassment, spam, named "jfoxtail") you can contact any Moderator that appears at the top of the forum page. If there is a problem developing within the thread (thread-jacking, inappropriate content/links, spam, flamewar, jfoxtail posting in it), Moderators can help with that, too.

Oh, did I mention I hate jfoxtail because he never sends me pie? I'm pretty sure I did.

GameSpy Neverwinter Nights 2 Review  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: NWN2 - Official News
GameSpy has posted their review of Neverwinter Nights 2 giving it 4 out of 5 stars. The list the Pros as "Exhaustive character options; well-written, engrossing story; sprawling original campaign." and the Cons as "some significant technical issues; performance isn't quite up to par." Here's an excerpt:
It says something that, despite these technical issues, we found it very hard to tear ourselves away from Neverwinter Nights 2 long enough to actually write this review. Just like its acclaimed spiritual predecessors, the game is wholly engrossing and begs to be explored. Rare is a game with such meaningful and varied character development, and the plethora of options available will guarantee that many players will want to indulge in its experience from the point of view of several different types of characters. Neverwinter Nights 2 is one of the best RPGs we've played in a long time -- bugs and performance issues be damned.
You can find all NWN2 reviews here. If we've missed any please let me know. Thanks to Bluesnews.com for the lead.

    New Poll : Alignments  [ 3 Comments ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: Site Features
We have a new poll up today asking what is your favorite alignment to roleplay. Do you play as good character, evil character or in between? Here are a few articles from the archive on the topic of alignments. The first is titled "Getting Alignments Straight" by Gilgamel where he lays out the various alignments and the second is by Hall of Fame author, Mark Iridian titled "What is Evil?. Here's an excerpt from that:
The word 'evil' is a universally hated word. It speaks of things like the Nazis in World War 2, Terrorism, and the typical Orcs in a fantasy setting. People might know what Evil means, but do they understand it? With hoards of MMORPGs and RPGs being announced daily, players are striving for a good storyline or a good role-playing environment to play in. Unfortunately, they're those who believe evil is nothing more than Player-Killing new players in online gaming, or writers who can't come up with anything better than 'bad orcs' and cliché 'world domination' villains. Here, we will be discussing proper guidelines on creating Evil within your world, as I lead you through the process.
If you have an interesting article you'd like to submit to the site, let me know.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Interview at IGN  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: NWN2 - Official News
The Australian offices of IGN have posted an interview with Obsidian's Lead Designer, Josh Sawyer, while they wait for the release down under. They talk about a variety of subjects regarding the game. Here's an excerpt:
IGN: Is it hard striking a balance in terms of difficulty for new players as well as veterans?

Josh: For the Official Campaign, yes. For the toolset, it's extremely difficult. D&D; is a pretty complicated system, so it's hard for a lot of new players to catch on to all of its intricacies. We try to use the tutorials and loading tips to familiarize players with the rules as much as possible, but experienced players will always have an edge.

The NWN2 toolset is also very powerful, and the learning curve is quite a bit higher than the original toolset, mostly due to the increased number of options available to builders. We're hopeful that the trade-off is worth it, and the community has already written plug-ins to help with ease of use issues.

Official Neverwinter Nights 2 Forum Highlights  [ 1 Comment ]
    Print News | Mail News | Category: NWN2 - NWN2 Forum Highlights
Here are the latest posts from the Neverwinter Nights 2 Official Forums made by the Obsidian developers working on Neverwinter Nights 2. Please note these are only one part of the thread, and should not be taken out of context. If you find any forum threads we may have missed or you think should be in the highlights, send me an email.

Darren Monahan - Executive Producer, Obsidian Entertainment -
v1.02 Hotfix English Now Being Worked
Hi Volion, with any luck, it's shipping today. We're still having a really tough time reproducing the crashes some of you guys have been seeing.

    v1.02 Status Update
Hi guys, a quick update on v1.02.

We did a lot of investigation today to try and determine why the patch was crashing for some customers who had recently installed it.

Unfortunately, we have still been unable to get the game to crash with 1.02 as reported by some customers here, but the folks at Atari have given us new encrypted executables which we're going to run through the gamut tomorrow in our QA department.

I am going to also privately release the executables to a few of the posters here who were experiencing crashes on startup and see if these resolve the issues for them.

For those of you who already have 1.02, don't worry - the coming 1.02 update will include updated NWN2Server.exe and ServerMonitorConsole.exe executables as well, and you don't need to uninstall the game if it's already working great for you. The patcher will handle updating those for you automatically.

We apologize again for the inconvenience, and will continue to keep you guys posted!

    Those of you with v1.02...
...if you're having a crash on start up, please post a message here or send me a Private Message if you prefer.

I have Nite77 and ghettoblaster from my original thread -- anyone else?

I'm seeing quite a few people who say they are running it successfully who managed to grab it while it was up, so I just want to make a determination on how really wide spread the crash issue is/was.

Xfire and Your Framerate: A Love Story
    Hi guys,

Xfire is kind of like a MSN Messenger for gamers. It lets you find friends online, see what games their playing, and join them. It has some similarities to GameSpy Arcade, but in a more Messenger type interface. I particularly like it because you can use it *while* you play games without having to Alt-Tab out.

It's not necessary to install though, and actually running it previously was causing some drops in frame rate in NWN2. What Josh posted here resolves that, but from what I hear, Xfire has already taken care of it in a login patch, so you shouldn't need to do anything but just connect.

...so, if you're having frame rate issues at this point, Xfire won't improve it, but it should not longer hamper it.

What is Direct SDK and what are retail version runtime of 3D?
Hey guys, no solution yet (but we're continuing to look into it), but we've taken out the check in 1.03 coming before Thanksgiving, which will get you past it.

    v0.95? Can't patch! Need help!
    Hi guys,

Some users have reported that the Updater reports their game version is 0.95 instead of 1.00, 1.01 or 1.02.

For those of you who have that, a couple questions, I'd like to see if I can get a fix to you guys:

    1) What version of the game are you running? CD, DVD, Direct2Drive? Is it a standard copy or Limited Edition?

    2) Were you part of any NWN2 beta before the game shipped?

    3) Did you experience any problems during installation or see anything that might have seemed odd? I'm wondering if the .NET Framework 2.0 installation failed and caused the setup program to possibly exit early.

    Those of you with v1.02...
Actually this has been good feedback - if it's working from you, I'd like to know that too!

(...and we'll take of the multiplayer stuff in tomorrow's patch! )

George Ziets - NWN2 Designer, Obsidian Entertainment -
    Keep question - Dancer/Teelah
In Act 3, Teelah will actually show up at your Keep on her own. There's another dancer that you can actively recruit... I believe her name is Joy, and she appears in Act 3.

Jeff Husges - NWN2 Designer, Obsidian Entertainment -
    Bishop - poorly designed
What package? There was a developer quote that choosing "Recommended" levelling for NPCs was handcrafted for what the character would take IC.
Companions are auto-leveled at the moment when you acquire them. After that, it's up to the player to level them. Bishop starts out in the party at level 8 or so, which means any feats he supposed to acquire are assigned without player intervention. The problem is that even though Bishop's package specifies FEAT_COMBATSTYLE_RANGER_ARCHERY, it's not giving it to him.

Erik Novales - Programmer, Obsidian Entertainment -
    Version Control
Yes, we used SourceSafe, and there is a plugin that we wrote for the toolset to allow developers to check in/check out pretty seamlessly from within the toolset. I don't consider it "shipping quality," but we might release the source or something as an example.

Having multiple people working on a module at the same time works fairly well due to the fact that areas, conversations, and scripts are only loosely dependent on each other.

A type of "Fog" (but not fog) obscures area view when I pull back - Can it be removed?
There is a bug with this that is fixed in the next patch. Once that is out you should be able to turn off fog, "use area far plane", and, provided that your far plane is set to 1000 in your graphics options, you should be able to see your entire map at once.

    .nss and .ncs question
Those are scripts that are only meant to be #included in other scripts. You shouldn't need to actually compile them.

    Door to door link weirdness
Do your doors have unique tags?

    .2da's and Number Descriptions...
**** is frequently used to delete rows in 2DAs, or to signify that they're empty. Unfortunately, it's not consistent which 2DA column is used to check for a deleted row -- usually it's a "Name" column, if one is present.

If all else fails, you can fall back on my good buddy, stringref 1: "Barbarians"

    Converting .UTC to .BIC
There are no differences apart from the file extension, and the file type that is stored in bytes 4-8 of the file, if I recall correctly.

Anthony Davis - Programmer, Obsidian Entertainment -
How many Chpters in the OC?
    1 Tutorial plus 3 Acts.

    Master's Sword/Shield/Scepter?
There are SEVERAL ways thorugh that door. My good buddy Ribsmasher got me throught he door. *sniff*, here's to you Ribsmasher!

Ranger favored enemies for single player campaign
Undead is a most excellent choice.

    Favorite One-Liners so far (Spoilers)
I like Sand's closing remarks if you allow him to wrap up the trial.

Tony Evans - Senior Designer, Obsidian Entertainment -
    Trouble with Wendersnave (Spoilers)
A cutscene should play when you pick up the Journal from the Bard Bones.

There is a bug that will be fixed for Patch 2 that could cause the cutscene to not play if the player uses a companion to loot the Journal from the Bones.

For now, try going back to an earlier saved game, before you picked up the Journal, and make sure you use the PC (not a companion) to loot the Journal.

    I hope that helps.

Can't build anything in the Stronghold (to the devs)
I can't find any problem that could cause this strange bug. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has had this problem.

Here is something you could try, though it is a bit of a hack...

    1) Press the ~ key (upper left hand side of the keyboard, usually just below the Esc key) to open the console.

    2) Enter the following text and hit enter after each line. Be very careful to type everything exactly, it is case sensitive and the presence or absence of spaces, commas, parentheses and quotations are important:

    DebugMode 1
    rs ga_global_int("01_Join_Veedle", "1")
    rs ga_destroy("21_veedle", 0, 0.0)
    DebugMode 0

    3) If everything was typed correctly, Veedle should disappear. Press ~ again to close the console.

    4) Move your character to exit Crossroad Keep Courtyard, either into the Farm or Keep Interior.

    5) Return to the Courtyard. If what you typed into the console was correct, Veedle should be back. Try to talk to him and see if that fixes the issue.

    emissary from luskan
Before you meet with Sydney Natale in Act 3, Khralver Irlingstar should be waiting patiently for you in the Crossroad Keep Courtyard, just outside the entrance to the Keep Interior.

John Y. Lee - Designer, Obsidian Entertainment -
    Shandra MIA
You're fine. Shandra doesn't join until much later in the act

Charles Mead - NWN2 Lead Scripter, Obsidian Entertainment -
    Quest script
To do that will require a little scripting.

Check out the goblin's properties and locate the "On Death Script" To make something happen when a creature dies, you can update the creature's OnDeathScript. The function to add is AddJournalQuestEntry().

Be sure to give your edited version of the script a new name. If you use the same name as what is there, just about every creature will call it when it dies!

    Conversation scripts not firing
You might check that the conditions you are adding are on the conditions tab and not on the actions tab.

    Little Rusty, could use help
FloatingTextStringOnCreature() has some unusual rules - see NWLexicon for more info. You might try ActionSpeakString() instead.

New PWC Section and Patch Field  [ 1 Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: NWN2 - Site News
We've opened up the new PWC section as we mentioned yesterday, so you have the choice of either adding your PWC files either to your respective gameworld and module entries or if you prefer just to add PWC files, then you can submit them to the new section.

Also we've added a "Patch" dropdown where you can specify what patch your entry works with. This will become more relevant as more patches start coming out but can also be used by author's in the Plug-in section for those that were broken due to the 1.01 patch. Thanks to Dan for the suggestion.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Gameworld Database Update  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: NWN2 - Community News
Here are the recent additions to our Neverwinter Nights 2 Gameworld section to let you know about. Since Neverwinter Nights 2 isn't out yet we have a category called "In Development" which world owners can switch out of when their worlds launch. We have several more improvements to the section planned prior to the launch of the game:
    • Drasmal, Terre de Sanglots (In Development)

    • Land of Ithia (Roleplaying)
"In a land unlike any known, lies an empire divided. Two great cities vie for dominance - each attempting to overthrow the other. Now, an unspoken truce has been made, and the fighting has finally come to an end. Far to the west rises a new, foreign threat. The Escrathians have returned, and petty squabblings must be put aside in order to defend against their relentless attacks. And so a calling to all would-be heroes is made. Your journey begins in a humble village, where you are but a dime in a dozen. Rumors have spread that this village is famous for breeding warriors of any skill; perhaps you too can have your name placed in the annals of history as one of them. But in order for that to happen, you must train.

Two cities provide such training. To the south, a grand and proud city rests upon a hill. This city is rich with magic, chivalry, and has a benevolent, yet cold and stern King. The other city, further to the northeast, is a breeding ground for crime, alcohol, and entertainment. Should you enter with confidence or naked fear, there is little question you will make your way to the top. The last choice is to venture forth alone, and hope to make a name for yourself single-handedly.
If you'd like your game world promoted, enter it and we'll post it here. Thanks for the news.
