Thandie Newton

Thandiwe Adjewa Newton is an actress born in Zambia on November 6, 1972.

Newton’s childhood was divided between Zambia and Cornwall, England. She received her education from the University of Cambridge.

Newton’s film debut was in Flirting in 1991, opposite Nicole Kidman. She went on to appear in Jefferson in Paris, Mission Impossible, Chronicles of Riddick and in Jonathan Demme’s Beloved which, coincidentally, is the meaning of her name.

In 2006, Newton was cast in the Academy award winning Crash. In the film, she depicts a wealthy black woman who is the target of racism. She won a BAFTA award for Best Supporting Actress for this role.

Newton is married to English director and writer Ol Parker and the couple have two daughters, Ripley and Nico.
