Tayrona Cafe Bakery UES

You can only imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this place. The UES has got decent take away Cuban food and you only have to go as far north as 70th Street for it. Tayrona Cafe Bakery. The cuban sandwich special on the blackboard outside is what lured me in, but once inside, I decided to go with the standard pernil, arroz blanco, y habichuelas rosadas. I have to say, it did not disappoint. The beans were perfectly seasoned, the rice was perfectly cooked, and the pernil was plentiful but just a tad dry for my taste. Overall, the food there looked *very* good and I'd say that lunchtime is probably the best time to go if you want to sample this comida. Very reasonable ... $6.95 for their large portion.

  1. Cool. I posted about this place a few years ago (I had just walked by it, didn't know the name of it), asking if anyone knew anything about it and nobody responded :( Thanks for the report - will definitely have to check it out.
