Once again it is time for a new release. The major updates in 1.1b are new voicecomms (not just new recordings, although we have that too), new melee code, a working Linux server (unless something odd happened since testing) and various new maps. See changelog.

As always, we need mirrors and servers. Ah, and some screenshots.

Important note for server administrators
Remove 1.0b before installing 1.1b.
We've fixed the players launching into air bug by removing the .phy model for the bullet. This means that you can't simply install 1.1b over 1.0b. You should delete 1.0b first (keep any extra maps and whatnot) before installing 1.1b. It's also a good idea for the simple reason that a lot of the directory structure has changed which means less disk space used compared to overinstall (duplicate files etc). Of course, you can simply delete the phy model aswell (models/game/bullet.phy IIRC).

As some of you may already know a new release of BG2 will soon be upon us. This full patch will include a variety of changes such as improved melee and upgraded sound and voice-work.

We'd like your help to promote this release. Over the last months, there have been a number of impressive community-made trailers that we've seen. We’d like to take advantage of this talent by offering you the chance to make the trailer that will be used to advertise the new patch.

This is a great chance for you to get your creative juices flowing and come up with something very exciting and dramatic that will hopefully be viewed by thousands of people. Obviously, you will be fully credited for your work on the trailer, so it’s a good way to show the world what you can do and have some fun with BG2 in the process.

We look forward to watching!

So far the release of 1.0b has gone quite well, except for a few unforseen things. The most urgent problem seems to have been the intro video causing crashes. We've reencoded it with a more widely supported format which should fix things.
In addition to that, we've improved melee by lowering the default value for cl_interp to zero. This has worked fine in our tests, also on public 1.0b servers. The maximum number of ragdolls was also decreased, for performance, which helps.
Finally, we decided to include some updated materials and sounds while we were at it.

Only clients need to install this patch. It's also optional.
