Sticky: Interested in community beta testing?
23:42 PST | Pyros | Print News | Mail News
Relic's community manager, Buggo, has dropped by our forum with an exciting thread. In it, she asks if anyone would be interested in introducing a Company of Heroes community beta test, which would help test out new features and content for the game before it is released to the general public. They're just checking if the community is interested in this right now, so if you want to join up and help, be sure to view her thread, and vote on the poll bar to your right.

Be sure to read Buggo's post for the obligations before you vote!

Company of Heroes on "Great computer games" list
23:42 PST | Pyros | Print News | Mail News
The Houston Chronicle has published their list of great PC games that are perfect for some holiday season gift-giving. And of course, Company of Heroes tops their list. Here is what they had to say...

A strong contender for the best real-time strategy game of 2006, Company of Heroes takes the player through some of World War II's most important conflicts. Players get a bird's eye view of the action as they battle Axis forces for control of northern France. The emphasis is on close combat.
Company of Heroes' amazingly detailed graphics complement its realistic physics. Debris from destroyed buildings creates obstacles for vehicles, or protection for units from gunfire. The whip-smart artificial intelligence behind it all makes the game seem unnervingly real.
So if you haven't already, pick up a copy for yourself, or someone you like.

Forum thread round-up!
16:45 PST | Pyros | Print News | Mail News
Let's take a look at some of the great threads and discussions going on in our forums...

- Interested in doing some community beta testing for upcoming Company of Heroes content? Be sure to read the thread by Relic's community manager, Buggo. If you've read what she has to say, and you're interested, vote "yes" in the poll on your right!

- TSN's Bridger has another excellent Tales of Heroes show up. Why not give it a listen, then pop by the forum thread and leave your comments?

- TrippleBBB shares his general CoH tactics. Whether you're an experienced player who is looking for a few more tips and tricks (or perhaps you want to contribute your own), or a new player looking to learn the ropes, his thread is the perfect place to start.

- The discussion on units you'd like to see continues in our mod forum. If you have a unit you'd like to see included in a CoH mod, or feel that an existing unit could afford to have some tweaks and changes, leave a post!

That's all for now, but be sure to keep your eyes on our forums, there's dozens of great topics there!

New Tales of Heroes show!
15:53 PST | Pyros | Print News | Mail News
TSN's Bridger dropped by our forums to discuss his new Tales of Heroes show. Here's what he had to say...

Due to technical problems with our recorded content this week, there will be no video replay review this week. Instead we will make up for it by having two replay reviews on Sunday the 17th. Next week we will not have a show because I will be in New York City broadcasting the Warcraft 3 tournament live from the World Series of Video Games grand finals! I highly recommend you guys check out www.tsncentral.com on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (9th, 10th, and 11th) as this is the best of the best gamers in the world being showcased in 6 tournaments (Ghost Recon AW, Project Gotham Racing, Halo 2, Quake 4, Warcraft 3, and Counterstrike 1.6). As mentioned I will be casting WC3 for the event, so don't miss it

For the show this week we are talking about Experience Company of Heroes (ECoH). This mod's goal is to create an environment where there are less, but more powerful tanks that must be protected with care as they are very expensive. What results is a very cool mod with expensive tanks and LOTS of infantry (infantry squads consist from 7-9 men instead of previous 4-6). There are many other great additions such as the Bazooka/Panzershrek teams and Radio teams to call in multiple types of artillery. I highly recommend you give it a shot. Here's the info:
Download: Here
Install: Extract files into your main CoH folder (Usually something like c:\program files\thq\Company of Heroes). You have to create a new shortcut file for your desktop (by copying your original) and going to right click >properties >target, and it should look like this:
X:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\RelicCOH.exe" -modname ECOH -dev
What you need is the -modname ECOH -dev at the very end, make sure there's a space in between the end quotation mark and the beginning of the parameters.

Play: To play online, join the "Caen" chat lobby once you log in to Relic Online. Other ECoH players will join there. When you are playing with the mod, you can only join games with other players who have the same mod version as you. All others will be greyed out (including vanilla CoH).

So check out this week's discussion for more info on the mod. We also talk about ladder wipe, wheather micro is an exploit, and a great letter from one of our viewers. We will be starting a new "Veiwer Mail" segment of the show in the future, so if you have any questions or comments you'd like discussed on the air, send it to talesof@tsncentral.com

Go here to download the show
Once you've checked out his show, be sure to leave some comments in the thread.

CoH gets a perfect score on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's list:
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has compiled their list of the hottest games of this season, with Company of Heroes coming out at number 3 with a perfect score of four stars. Here's what they had to say about it...
New Essence engine creates stunning graphics in this amazingly cinematic real-time strategy look at the World War II European campaign. Gone is the detachment that usually accompanies RTS campaigns once you zoom down from your bird's-eye view of Normandy to guide squads of startlingly detailed, interactive soldiers. Feel the personal impact as you lead them through gut-churning combat and advance on Berlin. But don't try this one unless you've got a powerful graphics card and plenty of memory to ensure it will run properly.
Let's hope we see CoH on more lists this holiday season (*cough* Game of the Year *cough*)

Thursday:
Perfect xmas gift!

So, if you want your notable other, parents, or random guy on the street to buy you Company of Heroes, point them to the gift guide with a nudge and a wink.

One new replay added - 1 vs 1 Semois
16:03 PST | Pyros | Print News | Mail News
We've got a new replay to share with you!

This replay, submitted by Emi, is entitled "1 vs 1 Semois". Here is how he describes it: "A nice game between me and a friend of mine, involving the mamoth power of the Pershing tank and the Flak 88 gun. Quite fun to watch." It is an exciting game, so be sure to check it out, you won't be disappointed!

If you have any replays you'd like to share, add them! And remember to use the patch 1.3 section for all your version 1.3 replays!

Three new maps added!
15:17 PST | Pyros | Print News | Mail News
We've got three great new user-made maps to share with you!

The first map, submitted by Creationist, is entitled Dam Busters. Here's what he has to say about it.."This map centers itself around the dam. Allies have the edge here as they start closer while axis must dash for the dam. The main feul provisions are on the dam with 2 small provisions found nead the bases. Takes a little strategy to take the dam though and can easily be cut off with a bit of thought!". As you can see from the screenshot, it is definitely an unique and exciting map, so download it and give it a try!

The second map, submitted by Strategy Man, is entitled Kursk. This map has something very unique going for it, it's based off the Battlefield 1942 map of the same name! Be sure to download Strategy Man's re-imagining of this map, it's awesome!

Our final map, submitted by Fryloc, is entitled Operation Detroit. Based on the military operation of the same name, this map features wreckage of a glider, dead paratroopers, and plenty of trenches/ambient flashes to simulate the actual event. If you're interested in history or just want to try out a great map, be sure to give this one a try!

And remember, if you have your own maps, be sure to add them!

CoH tops ExtremeTech's gift list.
15:13 PST | Pyros | Print News | Mail News
Another gift list, another Company of Heroes recommendation, then one courtesy of ExtremeTech. Here's a brief snippet of what they had to say:
Company of Heroes is a real-time strategy game played at the small unit level. Despite the fact that it's a traditional RTS game in many ways, and makes only a few nods towards realism, it feels like you're playing a World War 2 movie. Fire and movement seem real, flanking attacks work and the explosions and tracers are fantastic.
Another great guide to pass on to those who don't yet have Company of Heroes. However, I'd pass on AndyB's "advice" on harassing random street people for copies of the game, that's likely to get you stabbed.
