New Hot Zones to Be Released Soon  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News
As of the next patch, new "hot zones," zones with extra experience bonuses and unique looted items, will be added according to Dev Nodyin:

"The plan is for the next patch to include the new Hot Zones. I'm pretty excited about getting them out there for you guys."

For the first time, there will be a level 65 hot zone with this set. The Progression servers will also have hot zones, but Nodyin notes, "As far as the new rares and itemization they will be locked until PoP is unlocked, but I believe you guys are on pace to have unlocked that expansion before the zones will go in."

Demiplane Bug Fixed  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News
Developer Curt believes he has fixed the charm/death bug in Demiplane, to the relief of many raiding guilds, I am sure:

CurtEQ writes: "I found a crash. THE crash? hard to say. But a crash for sure, reproducible (now that I know the missing factor) and fixed. It will go out on the next live patch. I can tell you without a doubt it was responsible for the core dumps that I could make heads/tails of, but as for the semi-corrupt ones? Good chance, not great.. but good.

No I don't know when the next live patch will be, and I'm not authorized to speculate, but I can assure you it will be soon.

No I'm not going to tell you the details, except what everyone already knows; its related to charm and death. I'm sorry, I truly am, for the honest guilds and raid leaders who would use the info correctly, but if I post "don't do this" I might as well code in a button that just crashes the zone when you press it."

Maddoc Resurrects Boat Functionality  [ 1 Comment ]
Print News | Mail News
Boats will return to Norrath, but some of their functionality involves a revamp of the Ocean of Tears.

Maddoc says:

"The boats can, indeed, be resurrected.

The boat in Qeynos works very well ... The boat in Freeport, however... Ran into a couple snags, primarily with the Ocean of Tears zone and how it's laid out. That will be fixed in the relatively near future, making the Freeport boat as functional as the Qeynos boat.

The speed that the boats were running during beta was a hyper-accellerated speed, such that I could test out the functionality of my new boat system, without having to wait an hour for the boat to show up. The boats will move faster than they used to, but they won't be moving that fast. I expect an 8-10 minute round trip for the boats.

Boats should be ready to go live around the same time as the revamped ocean of tears. The issue that I ran into was with the orientation of the Ocean of Tears, and I am currently working on the revamp of Ocean of Tears, which is necessary to facilitate proper functionality of the boats."

Triality Guild Frostcrypt Video  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News
One of the end zones of The Serpent's Spine expansion is Frostcrypt, and if you would like to take a peek at what raiding it might be like, check out Triality guild's excellent video of their encounter in this instance on their website.

Wycca, who posted the video on the EQPlayers forums had this to say about the zone:

"I think overall (despite some bugs and tuning issues) this is one of the most interesting/fun raiding experiences in the game to date. The encounters are mostly fun and sometimes downright clever as they introduce some new mechanics and re-use some old ones. If anyone is curious, Frostcrypt #2 continues those traits mentioned, and with a little nudging, you may see another video of it soon. The entire Valdeholme/Frostcrypt side of progression and raiding has been a combination of frustration to bugs, delight at the scripts, excitement at winning, and some of the most intense rushes I've experienced in the game (Redfang, Performer, and Mayong came close, but not near our Odeen, Grenwald, and Harfange kills)."

They are recruiting an Enchanter, a Paladin, a Shadowknight and a Warrior, according to their website. Send Orruar or Dalnoth a tell in game if you are interested, and if you think you are uber enough, seriously!

  Google Ad Help
Print News | Mail News
The Vault Network is asking the community to help us preserve our "Don't Destroy the Game" philosophy and mantra. Our parent company IGN has partnered with the good guys over at Google to run its "Google Ads" across all of IGN's sites, which includes the Vaults. With that comes the chance of Google running a gold seller-type ad that might slip by the existing filter we help set up to ensure these ads are blocked. Because we told Google that these gold farmer type ads suck and don't belong on the Vault Network. They were more than happy to work with us to keep such ads off our sites. So, we will be watching to make sure we remove any that happen to slip through and muck up our stuff!

There is a gold lining to this situation (pun intended!). We have a system in place where any community member can submit an ad they might see via a simple and easy web form. You only need to provide one of two pieces of information: Name of Ad and/or the Link for the Ad -- that's it. Click here to learn more and where to submit.

Happy Halloween!  [ 1 Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: EQ Live
EQ Halloween style is in full swing with the trick or treating quests, although as I understand it one mob in Befallen has a long respawn time and is the bottleneck this year.

No undead armies yet, but perhaps they will put them in later?

I wish everyone a terrifically fun Halloween, in game or out!

And don't eat all the candy before the trick or treaters get there.

  Halloween Events 2006!  [ 1 Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: EQ Live
Update message for October 30th, 2006

Spooky spirits and strange mishaps seem to be descending upon Norrath. In addition to familiar Halloween haunts, keep your eyes peeled for Haunted Jack and Spooky Sally with their fiendish holiday treats in your local hometown. There have also been rumors of a strange zombie uprising, an increased bout of lycanthropy, and other creepy encounters rising up within Kithicor Forest. Take care and watch your step! Folks in need of assistance have been taking refuge within the Plane of Knowledge and Crescent Reach.

The festivities kick off tonight at midnight PST and run through the weekend. Happy Halloween!

Hotzone Update Pushed Back  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: EQ Live
Hotzones, the areas of extra experience with special item drops, will remain the same until the next patch. They want to make sure they are great!

Nodyin posted on EQLive:

Hotzones....will not change with this patch [the patch this past week].

This was the patch I was aiming for to change the Hot Zones. Following the pattern we set with the last set of zones we are going to introduce some small amount of new itemization with the next set of zones. Unfortunately Merloc was too busy doing a tuneing pass on TSS weapons and items for this patch to finish making the items I'll need for the Hot Zones. I apologize to those that were eagerly waiting for a new set of zones but I hope that when we do the next patch and you see the zones and play in them you'll find that the wait was worth it. I have a brand new trick to suprise you with and the items Merloc is making are, I think, pretty fun. Also the selection of zones should please a number of you (and be "blah" to an equal number, I'm sure!)

I just wanted to let you guys know so you can plan accordingly and aren't suprised when we push out the Patch. Again I'm sorry we missed the target on this.
