Print News

Staci Krause and Sandra Guajardo will be attending the Austin Game Developers Conference next week and as part of the programming, will be liveblogging several panels that may be of interest to the MMO community. Want to know what Damian Schubert, who works for Bioware Austin, thinks of high end gameplay? Have an interest in seeing what people are saying about taking the grind out of the MMO grind? Or want to know what the keys are to free-to-play MMOs? Attend our live blogs and your comments and questions might even make it to the panelists ears during the open Q&A; at the end of the panels!

Even if you miss the live blog, you can replay it and see all that occurred during the panel afterwards. Check out our schedule for the conference and mark your calendars!

GameArena Reviews Dungeons and Dragons Tactics  [ Comment ]
Print News | Category: Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics
GameArena now has up their review of Dungeons and Dragons Tactics. Here is an excerpt:

Except he must have missed the part where the entire game is one giant "Go here, kill this" mission which gets boring after you've killed your second enemy. And not just any old kind of boring either. It is annoyingly boring. You pick up loot one piece at a time but you have to scroll through the menu to the search corpse option, then to the pick loot option, then to a get loot option, by which point I was ready for the "Turn PSP off and destroy game" option. This was literally all before I'd even gotten to fight a single enemy. I'd just stumbled upon some dead guys corpse and searched it directly outside the very first dungeon. Fighting was actually worse. Imagine scrolling through a list of options just so you could move one of your 2 characters. Now imagine doing this every time you wanted to move and that there is more scrolling coming to attack something, cast a spell or use your special move. Infuriating.

Gaming Today Reviews Dungeons and Dragons Tactics  [ Comment ]
Print News | Category: Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics
Gaming Today now has up a review of Dungeons and Dragons Tactics for the PSP. Here is an excerpt:

But lets back up. Before entering the game youre able to create your own characters so that you can play campaign mode with an entirely custom party as opposed to using pre-made characters. All of the standard races and classes are here, including the Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Psion, Psychic Warrior, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, and Wizard. Beyond that, you can tweak your characters deity of choice, his or her alignment, and select from a short list of avatars that offer little variation. The lack of much visual distinction is pretty disappointing in this day and age of being able to customize characters to such an extreme degree.

Having gone to good lengths to make this game easy to pick up for a new gamer, it still feels that the real enjoyment is left for the die-hard Dungeons & Dragons fans.

Game Boyz now has up their review of Dungeons and Dragons Tactics for the PSP. Here is an excerpt:

The menu system that can drive the game is more complex than most games. It is here the bulk of your battles is executed. You'll find yourself digging far deeper into menus than you'd like for some things. The game is quite deep and the menus reflect that depth and practice makes perfect.

TotalPlaystation Reviews Dungeons and Dragons Tactics  [ Comment ]
Print News | Category: Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics
TotalPlaystation now has up a review of Dungeons and Dragons Tactics for the PSP. Here is an excerpt:

The game consists of a series of missions that you move through using a world map. Its a mostly linear path but there are places where you get a choice of which place to go to next and there are some locations that are optional. Some of the locations are simply places to shop for gear and items and do not have missions associated with them. The world map is also where you save and load games, buy and sell items, and also where you manage your party. This consists of trading items between characters, equipping items, and leveling up characters.

GameInformer Reviews Dungeons and Dragons Tactics  [ Comment ]
Print News | Category: Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics
GameInformer now has up their review of Dungeons and Dragons Tactics for the PSP. Here is their review:

Previous attempts at translating the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop experience to video games (like Dark Alliance or Neverwinter Nights) have had to make certain concessions to be playable. D&D;: Tactics hardly makes any, and as a result, feels like you are playing with the worst DM ever. I felt completely confined by the rigid rules, limited skill opportunities, and a between-battle interface thats more complicated than figuring out the rules for grappling. D&D;: Tactics tries to find the middle ground, but ends up lacking both the freedom that distinguishes tabletop D&D; and the gameplay that makes the digital versions entertaining.

Killer Betties Reviews Dungeons and Dragons Tactics  [ Comment ]
Print News | Category: Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics
Killer Betties now has up their review of Dungeons and Dragons Tactics for the PSP. Here is an excerpt:

The real faults of DnD:Tactics come from the gameplay, which perhaps remains too faithful to the franchise. You'll start the isometric levels exploring around, looking for mission clues, chests, and you'll keep looking around until you run across an enemy. Once you meet an enemy you'll find yourselves in a queue of battle commands, where when it is your turn you have exactly two options at your command before your turn is over and another one of your characters has to act. Typically your two move turn will include you moving into position and then your second turn attacking the enemy. It's easy enough to figure out that you need to move to the yellow squares around enemies to perform an attack, but it can be difficult to move into place as your guide arrow doesn't like taking diagonals based on camera position, so you'll sometimes have to angle your camera just perfect so that your movement arrow can be recognized.
