Eurogamer: If you could sum up Hellgate: London in one sentence, what would it be?
Bill Roper: What's a horrible marketing tagline to give you... It's a new perspective on action RPGs. It sounds cheesy, but I guess that's really it.
There are 19 of us who work at Flagship, who all worked at Blizzard on the Diablo titles. That includes Dave Brevik and Erich Schaefer who created Diablo. We love making action-RPGs.
In Hellgate there are all the elements like randomisation which made Diablo such a strong title, but we wanted to do it in a 3D setting in order to play with things like first-person. We've done a lot of fun gameplay things we were never able to do with Diablo.

We went full-bore with our drone, putting a Templar's sword on its nose and first a rifle, then a heavy pistol on its top weapon mount. It would simply charge into enemies with the sword, and gleefully barrage the battlefield with its firearm. Another ability let us order it to simply spin in place, incredibly deadly with a melee weapon mounted. Subscription prices for Europe have been officially announced on www.hellgatelondon.com and it turns out people in the United Kingdom will pay the most in subscription fee's at £6.99 ($14.06), thats £2 less than a subscription for a full blown MMO.
Those that live in other European countries will be charged slightly less at €9.99 ($13.65).
I disagree with the pricing and having to pay nearly $50 extra per year compared to those in the US to subscribe could put many people off in Europe.
An eleven-member jury has announced the finalists for this years Best of GC awards and Hellgate has been nominated for two out of the ten categories - PC and Online.
Hellgate faces stiff competition in the PC category up against Crysis, Starcraft 2, Enemy Territory Quake Wars, The Settlers – Rise of an Empire and Sam & Max Season One.
In the Online category Hellgate is up against two other games - Enemy Territory Quake Wars and Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures.
