Sticky: New Blue Dragon Screenshot from NWN2 Expansion[ Comment ] Print News Thanks to Obsidian for passing on a super hi-res screenshot of the Blue Dragon that will be part of the upcoming Neverwinter Nights 2 expansion (NX1) titled "Mask of the Betrayer" that's due out this fall! The screenshot makes for a cool desktop wallpaper that should fit pretty much any monitor resolution.
Also thanks to QSW for setting up a new NX1 section that covers all the expansion details on a single page as well as setting up a FAQ to answer questions. We'll be keeping it up to date as new information is revealed.

With over 17000 combined downloads, this NWN2 file shows without a doubt that NWN2 has many fans from countries where their language is not supported. Die Geschichten:
1.) Icewind Dale:
Ausgangspunkt ist das Fischerdorf Osthafen. Ihr schließt euch einer Expedition zur Ortschaft Kuldahar an. Unterwegs gerät die Karawane in einen Hinterhalt, dem Ihr als einzige lebend entkommen könnt. Von Kuldahar aus bereist Ihr weite Teile des Tales und begebt euch auf die Suche nach dem Bösen, welche das Land verseucht.
2.) Herz des Winters:
Ihr werdet in Kuldahar von einem Schamanen in das Städtchen Einsamwald gerufen. Hier planen die vereinigten Stämme der Uthgard-Barbaren einen Angriff auf die Zehnstädte. Sie werden von einem untoten Barbarenfürsten angeführt, den ein düsteres Geheimnis umgibt. Es ist eure Aufgabe, das Geheimnis dieses Fürsten zu lüften und den drohenden Krieg abzuwenden.
3.) Trials of the Luremaster:
Beschäftigt sich hauptsächlich mit den Geheimnissen eines offenbar schon vor langer Zeit verlassenen Schlosses.
4.) Neue zusätzliche Geschichte:
Das ist noch eine Überraschung und ein Tribut an alle Rollenspieler. ;-)

Icewind Dale goes NWN2. The Iwd-Remake-Moduls will include the complete stories of Icewind Dale, Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster (and a new additional story). All characters, voicesets, music and dialogues will be implementet to the IwD-Remake. We will also be trying to update Icewind-Dale-Remake into the D&D; Version 3.5 rules.
The Stories:
1.) Icewind Dale:
The start of your journey finds you in Easthaven. You have to join to an impending expedition to the Kuldahar valley, but you´ll be ambushed. As the lone survivors of what once was a promising expedition, your duty is clear: you must press on to Kuldahar and continue the search for the evil that plagues the land.
2.) Heart of Winter:
In Kuldahar a shaman will mention that dark clouds of war gather over his homeland. That a king both young and old, has returned from the grave to lead his people in the conflict to come, only you can prevent the cataclysmic war from happening.
3.) Trials of the Luremaster:
There are lots of secrets in this old abandoned Castle. Abandoned? Really?? You´ll see it.
4.) New additional story:
Thats going to be our surprise and a tribute to all Role Playing Gamers. ;-)
An English-Version (if the custom.tlk, is going to work, in NWN2) will be done a little bit later.

Questions about 1.69 The content of 1.69, as is the final disposition of such, has not yet been decided. All the big decisions on what to include in the patch will be made later on. There is also the issue of getting approval to do one final patch, as well as allocating resources which are currently occupied by other projects with higher priority.
Until we make those, we can't give you any kind of answer on when or if 1.69 will come (but we hope it will, because we'd really like to do it) or what it will contain. So, please join the discussion in the 1.69 requests thread. Thank you.

In the hot seat is Obsidian's Lead Designer Kevin Saunders and reveals some of the new classes and feature. Here's an excerpt:
GS: How far has the level cap, which was previously set at 20, been raised? What are some of the new high-level skills and abilities in the expansion?
KS: Mask of the Betrayer takes you into the D&D; epic levels, up to level 30. All of the base classes are being expanded up to level 30, and you can multiclass and take prestige classes to reach the higher levels. You'll have over 50 epic feats to choose from, some of which provide new abilities that we've designed with guidance from Wizards of the Coast. For example, monks might acquire the blazing aura feat, which engulfs their body in flames, injuring enemies who attack them, and adding to their unarmed strike damage.
As part of the expansion will be more tools for the modding community and improved graphics. There's also several new screenshots to check out.

The ALANGARA server offers a mixture of role-play and adventure to the players and to the best of our ability we try to recreate the known PnP atmosphere, where in one moment enemy players are discussing on word and philosophies and in the next their are chatting friendly to each other or perhaps OOC debating about some idea of sorts for the server overall. We only force Role-play to the extend that players should speak as if they were indeed that character when in public.
The main philosophy from the two world builders/owners was that they wanted to create a server where it is the life and option of the players themselves that is in focus. Now we have designed a very challenging world. We believe that good role-play should be encouraged by the world itself by allowing the players to actually have some real issues to role-play about. As such we offer various options such as
- Player built housing.
- Player built lands.
- Even player built cities if you can afford it
- Player made guilds with custom guild structures, teleports guild vendors etc.
- Different in game factions to support of fight.
- Lots of NPC quests to entertain you.
Player farms adding a new range of options to the game such as:
- Creating magical custom gear
- Gain xp and gold from farming
- Use special plants to get other sort of special gear adding to your personal power in combat
Another aspect we have been working a lot with is the entire atmosphere and user friendliness of the server. We have been working very hard to provide a host of different scenarios in order to obtain a visually beautiful world which inspires the players to role-play and explore rather than forcing it down as a server rule. But keep role-play in mind when you make your character build or even your background.

Many of the suggestions we find interesting and some intriguing. Many of the suggestions do give us ideas for things to implement and they are being evaluated. We won't implement something just because it is in that list, though. We try to look for what would make things fun for everyone, not just because it sounds cool or is closer to D&D rules.
Improving multiplayer chat/communication I think the portrait might not work well in this interface right now. What if you could click on a character's name to send them a tell like most MMOs?

NW1 old school, is it a good idea to buy NW2 ? This thread is becoming counter-productive to everyone. NWN2 has its limitations, just as NWN1 does. Both games allow for a person to build mods. Are there as many mods for NWN2 as there are for NWN1, no. Trying to use that as a benchmark is just silly.
For the sake of everyone's sanity, I am going to close this thread down.
