Weekly Forums Digest - 01/25 Print News | Mail News | Category: Community
Nightcraw's "Tolkien's Writing and How it Impacts LOTRO" thread was a big one this week, and Tolkien himself seemed a popular topic in several other discussions as well. The official forums has a great thread on the Nazul, and a good number of player views on the Fellowship system.
The combat system, the "millionaire RPer" and newbie tutorials were also big topics. MKL has links to these topics and more in his weekly feature here!

Screen Shot of the Week ~ Troll Fight Print News | Mail News | Category: Site News
Trolls, Orcs and Goblins. Oh my! Grab your fellowship and any able bodied fighter of the land to fight the evil foes that are trying to take over. This weeks screen shot shows us a great battle with a Troll. What enemies of Middle Earth have you been itching to sink your sword in? What kind of epic or larger encounters would you like to take part in?
One of the most incredible aspects of LOTRO is the detailed and vivid
world that our characters live in. If you have screenshots of a place
or creature that you would like to share(once the NDA is lifted, of
course. :) ), send it in! You can use the LOTRO Vault Community
Submissions page to send them in, and we'll feature them on the
front page of the Lord of the Rings
Online Vault.

 | | | | | LOTRO in NYT : April 24th Release Date Announced Print News | Mail News | Category: General In a recent New York Times article, an April 24th release date was announced for Lord of the Rings Online.
"Tomorrow in Las Vegas, Turbine Inc. of Westwood, Mass., is to announce an April 24 release date for The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar..."
The article went on to give more details and also comments from reviewers from such fansites as Gamespot and TheOneRing.net
"Since September some 300,000 users have beta-tested the fates of elvish lore masters and hobbit burglars in a 50-million-square-acre Middle-earth still under construction (and giving the game great advance word of mouth). Most players expect creative leaps to adapt a reading experience into compelling play, said Larry Curtis of TheOneRing.net, a Tolkien fan site."

Topic of the Week Hardcores and Casuals... Peace in Middle-Earth?
This week's topic was Hardcores vs Casuals. Several people shared their views on the topic. One player had the following to say: Positive: Because the concept is Based on Lord of the Rings, LOTRO may actually pull in people that have never played any type of MMP before, uncharted market that may exist? Plus the Mature gamer who actually knows what a book is and has open one more then once in there life.
Negative: We live in a fast food Culture, were people are in a hurry and dont want to stop and smell the flowers, all that matters is how fast they can level and pound there chest about how they P'wned everyone in pvp, Hopefully LOTRO will not appeal to these players, however if subscriptions matter and they loose the fast food market that could hurt the games success. - Nohmadd Share your views in the current thread on the topic!
Some more great game info came from Turbine this week in the form of insight into characters and places, and another player beta journal. Beta Player Journal - The Burglar
Characters - Rangers
Locations - Esteldin

 | | | | | Exploring Middle-earth: Esteldin Print News | Mail News | Category: General
Few know the true nature of the Rangers of the North, those seemingly grim and cheerless Men who lead a secretive life in the wilderness of Eriador. Fewer still know of Esteldín, the hidden gathering place of the Rangers, tucked away in the wild, far from the travels of even the most distant wanderers. Read the full article here.

Screenshot of the week ~ Elven Landscape Print News | Mail News | Category: Site News
This weeks screenshot is a breathtaking Elven landscape. In a game like LOTRO how important is the eye candy to the target audience? Is the high graphical detail of the cities, landscape, monsters, etc
a big factor in your decision to play a game or not? Would you upgrade your computer system if needed just to immerse yourself in this Tolkien virtual world?

Our fellow community member Nightcraws has submitted the first chapter of a new story, the Journal of an Elf named Nand through the fourth age.
Formerly known as Minas Anor, before the Nazgûl captured the great city, Minas Tirith has been my home for quite some time now. It has been the life and heart of Gondor since the Second Age. The great city has withstood the test of time and survived the War of the Ring. Read the full story : Tales from Minas Tirith: The Journal of Nand!

Few can speak with certainty of the Rangers of the North tall, mysterious strangers, occasionally seen in the shadows of a darkened tavern or in the wilds of Eriador. Tales of these grim Men tell of their desire for solitude and their seeming indifference to the affairs of the free peoples of Middle-earth.
