Sticky: NWVault Toolset Review #2[ Comment ] Print News | Mail News NWVault is pleased to announce the fourth in a series of reviews covering the NWN2 Official Campaign & Toolset, by various community members. We will be publishing one review a day, alternating between OC reviews & Toolset reviews. For ease of use and a full list of the contributing authors go here to view our NWVault NWN2 Review Index. Tonight we have the second Toolset review written by Hall of Fame author Lanessar. Here's a quick summary of the review:
The toolset for Neverwinter Nights 2 is a powerful game editor which allows you to create your own adventures to exacting detail. The many features which came with the toolset are powerful, and allow you to do pretty much anything you want If you know how.
Id say that in reviewing the toolset that would be my major gripe. While the documentation is excellent for building your average area, anything out-of-the-norm is a trial and error procedure with literally hundreds if not thousands of variations and no pre-set examples included.
Lets say for example, you wanted to create a lake of ice. While Im sure that the module included will help with those examples, there are export tools which allow you to create importable versions of many settings. Why not create lava, ice, and a hundred other examples so you can just import the properties? It would go a long way to making the program user-friendly.
Thanks Lanessar. If you would like to add your module for review, go here. The NWVault Review Guild is accepting applications for new members. If you are interested in joining the guild, follow this link.
NWN2 Spotlight - Heed's Angler Pack by Heed[ Comment ] Print News | Mail News | Category: NWN2 - Spotlight Today we have a Neverwinter Nights 2 Original Hakpak in the spotlight created by Heed. Titled Heed's Angler Pack this Hak offers a variety of fish types, low gold/XP rewards, and some nice casting effects. Easily placed in a module or PW, this could definitely be a feature to 'hook' players. Here's an excerpt:
Heed's Angler Pack is a custom content/scripting package that provides a fishing system that can be integrated into the builder's module. It includes all the required resources and custom content and comes with a fully functioning demo module.
The package is designed for the module builder wishing to add this functionality to his/her mod/world. A player can, of course, load the demo module if looking to just spend some time fishing.
The system is NOT intended to be a perfect replica of fishing in the real world. It is intended to be something that gives an approximation of fishing in an enjoyable manner. It is intended to be the kind of system that a player can pick up and use at any time for any amount of time. That is, a player could spend 10 minutes here or there fishing or could spend hours on end. From the default settings, a player shouldn't be able to reap huge rewards in XP or gold profits even if he/she spends hours on end fishing. You can see "hot" or "cold" streaks, of course, but on average the system shouldn't unbalance the mod/world it is integrated into. This is also, of course, dependant on the economy and XP progression of the mod/world it is integrated into.
Thanks for the contribution Heed. Thanks also to QSW for her help in preparing the spotlights. If you'd like your work in the spotlight, drop me a line.
Welcome on our forum and thanx for your readiness to help. May you introduce yourself for those who still doesn't know you?
My name is Leonard James Bedner, but I go by the handle of Challseus. I am a Software Engineer in Manhattan, New York, but aspire to become a full time game designer, and one day, own my own development studio.
In order to achieve my goals, I began to create the series, Rose of Eternity, as a module for Neverwinter Nights. It was my hope to be able to showcase my talents to potential employers.
My success has taken me places I would have never imagine, such as the Game Developers Conference, where I was lucky enough to win the Independent Games Festival award for best NWN module. I have met many important people since I started, and I feel I am well on my way towards my final goal.
The Autarch has a problem. His kingdom is on the brink of war, and his royal viziers tell him the only hope for the future lies in gaining three unique magical items, each of surpassing power. But the items are held by guardians of such evil that the viziers tremble at the thought of facing one, let alone all three. Recovering those items means almost certain death.
The Autarch glances down at his desk, noting a message from this morning. Spies report the arrival of adventurers, ones of some renown. Instantly, he has the solution to his problem. Adventurers can get those items. They'll do anything for money.
Even if it kills them.
Thanks to Ghool for the contribution and Steve Savicki for the heads up. If you'd like your work in the spotlight, drop me a line.

Motivation
This module was built in response to frequent requests for simple scripts to provide functionality needed for most modules and persistent worlds. These scripts and the demo module should help new module builders and scripters get started with Never
TextMacro Tool by Abraxas77(Other) - The TextMacro tool is a stand-alone UI designed to provide the familiar text macro feature from oNWN to NWN2. It does just that and much more! This is a CSF (Common Scripting Framework) plugin, and therefore, requires a CSF enabled module. Should I find a demand for a standard version, I will gladly create it. However, I encourage everyone to give CSF a try. It's an excellent system written b..
Custom Fullblade by Shintao(Weapons) - overrides that put the fullblade into the NWN2 main campaign. It is not in stores, but I am working on a fix for that. All weapon feats work with the weapon. Crafting, enhancing, PRC preq, and random generation also work.

"Mountains can now be modified by an "edge fixer" crosser, that removes the cake layer pattern and merges two levels of raised terrain into the same seamless mountsin side. Also added a simple wall, which works as a preview of the architectural style that the native buildings of the tileset will follow. We are slowly getting closer to release --------- For updates on the state of development: CTP forums (which are now hosted by DLA)

"Harper isn't exactly hero material...she's a bard, a damn good one, and has spent most of her life blandishing tales about other people. And when her life is thrust onto a pinwheel track of death, danger, magic, and adventure, she finds more and more people look to her for answers. And more than a few are looking to her for something more... "
Show any picture/bitmap ingame? Like mentioned, you can make use of the 10x6 inventory item icon as a temporary method of showing a picture to the player. The dimensions of the targa will have to be 512x256, with the upper left 320x60 shown (1 inventory slot = 32x32 pixels).
You'll have to add it as a new type to the baseitems.2da however and supply the TGA in a HAK to your players. OR like suggested, a new placeable or single billboarded VFX (that is, the single particle that always faces the PC's camera) to display the image.

Game Planet gave it an overall score of "4 out of 5" and had these ups, downs and bottom line: "Ups: Spectacular spell and combat effects aplenty, a compelling storyline with numerous side quests plus character development and tinkering opportunities all hot items on the RPG fan's wish list.
Downs: There are some minor graphics issues, and if you dont have a grunty PC you will have to sacrifice a lot of eye candy for the sake of improved performance.
Bottom Line: A must-have for anyone who enjoyed the original NWN titles, and for D&D;/Forgotten Realms fans.".

Teper's Vortex,Bubbles,Stars and Stuff VFX Pack by Teper's or aadatepe(Other) - Hi everybody,I am releasing my second effects pack for vortexes, bubbles, stars and stuff. Some of the effects do not show up in mod, though they show up in VFX editor. Not sure why, I have worked on trying to figure out this problem, to no end. So if anybody can figure out this problem, then kudos to you and have earn the right to post them as your own vfx's.
Player's Rest by Brendan Silveryhands(Interior : Housing) - This is my first attempt at using the toolset, so bear with me. What you have here is an outdoor area, a ruined mine office on the outskirts of Diamond Lake. It's based off of the player home illustrated in Dungeoun magazine's excellent Age Of Worms Adventure Path. I am using it as the first area in bringing The Age Of Worms to my group's players.
Darkplane test run pwc by Darkbolt Melesk(Modules) - Here is the "first run" beta release for my new module comming out under arena. I release this now because im anxious to see all my old school buddys from nwn1 and even though the mod is not done, Atleast there is a place to hangout considering there are 2 servers so far. So i hope you enjoy what i have so far. And know that there is way more to come. Darkbolt Melesk

I have a player on my server that has twice managed to create a character that takes down the server when he logs it in.
I have stripped all items off the character and emptied his inventory, and yet as soon as he tries to join the PW, BOOM! Nwserver will crash.
I have run the server privately and tried to log him in with no other players joined and it still crashes the server.
I am at a loss with this one.
He may need to update his PWC file...
If you could get a server error log, that may help.
Patch 1.03 for Polish version I really don't know much about the patch situation for you guys except to restate what has already been said in this thread: You will be skipping 1.03 and moving to 1.04, I belive.
Removal of PWC system? I don't see the PWC file going away alltogether, but we are looking at a whole bunch of options to get the file to you easier and to try to make it smaller.
It's a very difficult area of the game to work on, so I can't promise anything at this point. But there are a lot of options as to how to address the PWC, the download fo it and all other content and making it easier to "server shop".
More: One other thing I think is important to relay:
NWN2 is not made for dial-up users and we do not support dial-up. The box even states that a broadband connection to the internet is required to play online.
I just re-state this because every week I receive a few PMs from people telling me how difficult it is to play multiplayer on a dial-up connection.
We are taking steps to improve multiplayer, shrink down file sizes and make connecting to a server easier. But I doubt we will ever support a dial-up connection.
More: I think it's safe to say that when I say "multiplayer" I am talking about the casual multiplayer functionality and the core of the persistent world architecture. You can't have a PW without multiplayer functionality, but you can have multiplayer without the PW functionality.
