Gamezone reviews Vegas
Posted at 8:12 PST by Rifter | General Rainbow Six News
The folks over at Gamezone seem to enjoy the PC version of Rainbow Six: Vegas. They gave the game a good solid 8.5.
OK, so now we're rolling. R6 takes us back in time to when the franchise was based squarely in reality, I know, you could argue that all the games have been firmly rooted in the plausible world of Tom Clancy, but in this title, the developers chose to go back a step or two and really involve the gamer in the whole mission-based experience. Recent versions on the console have dumbed down some of the gameplay that was once only found in the PC versions and R6 brings the series back to these roots. With two R6 members running along with you as you gun your way through the casinos you notice a couple of key gameplay issues.

GRAW 2: Hands-on Preview
Posted at 11:55 PST by Rifter | Ghost Recon News
Those guys up at IGN got their hands on a build of GRAW 2, and bring us the goods!
The year 2006 was unprecedented for Ubisoft's Tom Clancy series. Next-gen gamers, specifically Xbox 360 gamers, received three great iterations of Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six. With each game advancing in gameplay, tactics, and graphics, it's also become clear to this reporter that the Clancy games are becoming closer in play than they originally started out. What exactly is it that separates Ghost Recon from Rainbow Six?
Wow, just can't wait to check this one out!

Rainbow Six Vegas review - PC
Posted at 19:40 PST by Rifter | General Rainbow Six News
Pro-G has an interesting review of the PC version of Rainbow Six Vegas up. They seem pretty happy witht he game, though, do mention the game does not seem as polished as the 360 version. Here is a bit from the review.
Can an action game be released these days without using some kind of 'cover' system? Just as bullet-time appeared in every other action game for a while, it seems that your game is nothing these days without the ability to put your character's back to a wall. Rainbow Six Vegas is the latest game to use such a system, but unlike GRAW for the PC which was more or less a version created specifically for the PC audience, Vegas sticks very much to its console roots, for better or worse.

Gamespy has been going through their Game of the Year awards, and just put up the Xbox 360 awards. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter came in 7th place, while Rainbow Six: Vegas was JUST edged out of first place by Gears of War. Vegas DID win First Person Shooter of the year as well as Online Multiplayer game of the Year.
For the Xbox, Splinter Cell: Double Agent pretty much sweeped things. Winnning #1 Xbox game, Best game of the year, Best Action game of the year, as well as the award for being better than the next gen version.

Rainbow Six Vegas review roundup
Posted at 7:36 PST by Rifter | General Rainbow Six News
Several new reviews are now up.
First up, is Action Trip. The review is very positive, scoring a whopping 91!
Next up, we have Bit-Tech.net and their review. It is mostly positive, and compares the game heavily to Gears of War.
Another positive review comes from Game Spot. They score the game an 8.7. This is for the PC Version.
Finally, we have the review from IGN (PC). They scored it an 8.4.
PC gamers feel some bit of ownership when it comes to franchises like Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. It's no wonder considering what awesome games the originals were on the PC. They were tactical and exciting and were about as realistic as you could get at the time. Since those glory days Ubisoft has made the decision to make console skews a higher priority. It's unsurprising considering sales numbers on those systems but it tends to leave PC gamers looking to revisit yesteryear at a bit of a disadvantage. Expensive to create games like Rainbow Six: Vegas have to appeal to as large an audience as possible, which means the niche market for hardcore realistic tactical shooters is left out. Niche fans are likely going to be pretty pissed about Rainbow Six: Vegas because it's definitely not the Rainbow Six that was. Does that mean it's a bad game? No, not at all. It's just way different than it used to be. Are we sad about the change in the PC version? Very. But even through the tears it's pretty clear that Rainbow Six: Vegas is an accomplished action shooter. It's packed with gunfights, full of excitement, looks good, and provides plenty of mindless entertainment. If only the framerate was steady and multiplayer stable we'd be much happier.

GRAW 2 officially announced

GRAW 2 has been officially announced.
Ubisoft Unveils Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter(TM) 2
Friday December 8, 10:00 am ET
Sequel to 2006's Next-Generation Smash Hit Arrives Spring 2007
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter(TM) 2, the next installment in the popular squad-based action franchise, is currently in development for the Xbox 360(TM) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system and Windows® PC. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is being developed by the award-winning teams that created the original Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter(TM) in Ubisoft's Paris and Red Storm Studios. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is scheduled for worldwide release in Spring 2007.
"Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter set the standard for what we know as the next-generation gaming experience," said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America. "With Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Ubisoft is taking all the successful elements in the original to an unparalleled level of quality -- the sophisticated technology, weaponry, graphics, story and online gameplay will heighten the intensity and bring gamers an even more amazing experience."
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter received critical acclaim and quickly became one of the best-selling games on Xbox 360 and one of the most played games on the Xbox Live® online gaming service. Recently, the prestigious British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awarded Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter with "Best Game of the Year" and "Technical Achievement" honors.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 builds off of the events in the first game and places gamers in control of the U.S. military's elite fighting unit, the Ghosts. In the year 2014, the rising conflict between Mexican loyalists and insurgent rebel forces has thrown Mexico into full-scale civil war. Under the command of Captain Scott Mitchell, the Ghosts are called upon to face an imminent threat to the United States. The fate of two countries now lies in the hands of the Ghosts as they fend off an attack on U.S. soil. Equipped with the most cutting-edge weaponry and technology, the Ghosts must battle on both sides of the border to neutralize the escalating rebel threat.
Key Features:
Groundbreaking Visual Experience: The war zone in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter comes to life as you navigate through trash-strewn streets and pick off enemies from behind bomb-scarred structures. The cutting-edge physics and particle systems will show you some of the most intense and realistic explosions, smoke, and environment destruction ever seen in a video game. Dynamic lighting and shadows will morph as real-time day/night cycles and a constantly changing weather system require you to adjust to the changing conditions on the fly.
All-New Battlegrounds: For the first time ever, the Ghosts will defend U.S. soil from a cross-border attack, taking the fight to all-new locations. The Ghosts will battle enemies in mountain terrains, barren deserts and even on their home turf in El Paso, Texas. Each environment presents its own benefits and challenges and will call for fresh tactical approaches.
Vastly Improved Artificial Intelligence (AI): Watch your back as rebels send their own team members to flank your position or gain vantage points by utilizing vertical gameplay to pick you off from the rooftops above. Improved squad-mate AI will now feed you more of the information you need with descriptive commands like "enemy spotted behind red truck ahead."
Improved Cross-Com: The revolutionary new Cross-Com 2.0 will give the player more information than ever before. You will be able to see what your friendly forces see in the top left display and the click of a button will expand that to full-screen view for a clearer and more precise picture. This will give you a more comprehensive view of the entire battlefield. The new Full Command View will allow unprecedented precision in developing and issuing tactical plans on the battlefield.
Expanded Support: Command lethal air strikes with jet fighters, gain mobile cover for otherwise impassable situations and replenish armaments on the battlefield using an unmanned artillery MULE. Players can now heal their team on the battlefield, including squad leader Scott Mitchell, with an all-new Medic class of soldier.
