Doom Wad Station Reviews 12:42 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News The DOOM Wad Station has been busy as a beaver this year with all of their DOOM and id Software related reviews. To celebrate their 50th review of the year, they reviewed a map called Ectopia. It looks to be a pretty solid map and worth a download. Not to stop there, they continued on with their 51st map of the year - FOX, Which was a very good first Doom mapper in the community named Akira who normally develops maps for RTCW. Also - a rarity these days, they have a new review on the DOOM review pages (almost never see those any more) for a pwad called ADA version 2.1. The author is from the Czech Republic and Jive (the reviewer) seems pretty impressed with it. Again - worth a look.
The Day After 12:31 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News No post yesterday because it was an all day event to get my car up and running. It finally started at about 6pm after messing around with it all day long and walking all over the city to get parts needed. Once it did work, the first stop was GameStop to pick up a new DS game. Big Brain Academy for the win. It's a fun game but not so fun when the game lets you know just how stupid you are. Anyways, that's all for now! Don't the asstacular Spike TV Vide Game Awards are on tonight!
Recall to Hell up for Mod of the Year 8:34 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News Last week we posted about Moddb.com's poll for mod of the year and that LMS was listed. It's only fair that we give a shout out to Recall to Hell that is also included on the poll. As well the team has gathered all of the facts and features about Recall to Hell and put them all together in the form of a new presentation site. Together with the impressive images in the gallery, you can use this to keep yourself informed about the mod, its story, features and their motives. You can check it out right here.
The Day After 8:28 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News Hope you all had a great weekend! I had a wonderful time waking up at 8am Saturday morning because a fellow was supposed to come by and fix my car for me but he failed to show up. I was quite pleased with the outcome. Quite. Since I am heading back up to the great white north in 2 and a half weeks, it would be nice if I didn't have to walk up there. Mucho work to do with packing, cleaning out the place and crap like that so I'll keep this post short. Have a good day folks and for the hell of it, why not check out this ridiculous article about the history of video game breasts.
Happy Birthday DOOM! 13:54 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News 13 years ago this day a little bundle of joy named DOOM was brought into our lives. 13 years later the game still has a huge following and one of the most recognized games ever created. Our tip of the hat to id Software for creating such a wonderful way to kill time and the demons of hell. Why not leave a comment and tell us about the first time you ran across DOOM and how much awesomeness DOOM has brought to the world of gaming.
LMS Co-op up for Mod Of The Year 11:11 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News Last Man Standing Co-op is up for Mod Of The Year over at Moddb! If you feel the need to vote for LMS as your favourite mod this year, then be sure you head over to this page and cast your ballot. Calimer for the mod team also had a little extra to say about the future of the LMS mod:
We are really happy to say that despite the fact that our last release was over nine months ago, the LMS community has been going strong and is actually growing! Since we love our fans and supporters, we have been thinking about treating you with a new release. What we want is some real feedback from the community as to what are the top 10 things that you wish were added to LMS. If there is enough interest then we are going to try to treat you with a new release :) To post comments about what is on your LMS wish list, please visit us here!
The Day After 11:05 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News That title makes more sense no? I think so. Anywhoo...I know I have bitched about shows like GhostHunters and stuff before, but I was watching this show on Discovery last night called "A Haunting" and hot damn! That was crap. Not sure if anyone caught it, but it was basically about a family with a husband, wife, daughter and son and strange things would happen in the kids rooms. So then after a time it would happen to the mom and then the family get freaked out blah blah blah.
Of course the husband was never there when stuff happened. So anyways, they call in the Ghostbusters and they tell the family that they have demons living in their house. ooohh ahhh. Now don't get me wrong, but if I was a demon and I wanted to scare the crap out of a family, I think I would do a little more than open doors or stand in the corner of your room. Other than that, most of the stuff that happened was in their heads, like walls bleeding and such.
Not too mention half the spooky crap had absolutely nothing to do with the actual story. The show would just flash images of some old lady's face or blood covered hands between scenes. Wth? If your story isn't interesting or spooky enough to begin with and you need to use these lame gimmicks, don't bother with it. So anyways, the Ghostbusting priests go through the house with their bible and incense and drive the demons out to the last room of the house. The Garage. *sigh* So the demon does his most scary thing yet ...by flashing the lights on and off and is finally banished. So then after they family is at peace, they sell the house and move. Der. Top quality TV there let me tell you.
I am really thinking it's time to start reading a lot more than I do now. That's all for my complaining for now. Have a good weekend folks!
I decided to call it 0.9.8.5, because I still have many ideas I want to implement before 0.9.9. Still, all the promised features (including Difficulty Levels, Progress Tracking and Challenge Modes are implemnted, not to mention a heap of Advanced Traits! And don't worry, a new version should be out a lot quicker.
What is DOOM Roguelike? I have no idea but you can check it out right here on their site for screens and more information.
The Morning After 13:44 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News Yay, I can post news again. The news system wouldn't log in yesterday and was doing some funky stuff. Sorry about that. I think I really need to change the name of these daily posts since they are rarely in the morning, considering I have the worst sleeping pattern in the world. I usually end up hitting the sack at about 5am and getting up around 10 or 11 and then falling asleep again a few hours later. Anyone have any tips for getting a sleep pattern in order? I miss going to bed at midnight and waking up at 7 or 8. Working shift work for 13 years is not good for you.
The Last Revenger Review & Download 9:36 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News The DOOM Wad Station has another goodie for you old schoolers to check out. Blue Paladin reviewed a 32 level megawad for Doom2 called "The Last Revenger". The author is Russian and he apparently changed all the menus to read in Russian so players will need to have a translation dictionary beside them. yay это будет потеха! As far as I know Doom Wad Station is the only site on the planet at this moment that has this megawad so people can check out the review and download it here
Poll of DOOOOOOM! 9:30 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News Nice and simple poll this week for you all. Which would you rather see more of for DOOM 3? More maps or more mods? I'd go with more mods since online play doesn't seem to be happening, but I would also love to see a PlanetDOOM inspired map. That would be the sweetness. In our last poll I asked how important Co-op play was to have included in games. Not suprisingly, the majority answer was that people wanted it, needed it, wanted to shoot it in their veins...you get the idea. Hit this weeks poll and let us know what you think!
The Morning After 9:27 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News Why is there a recruiting office in every damn strip mall around here? I really hate having them stand outside and ask me everyday if "I'm ready to be a soldier". "Hey buddy, I'm fat, old and Canadian" never seems to deter them however. So how about Heroes last night? I for one did not understand half of what happened because, well...it made no friggin sense. Was Peter still in Texas or was he in New York? They didn't say as far as I can recall and if it was New York which would make sense since his brother showed up to spring him looking like he just left a party, why was Claire and her dad there? *boggle* and with that, have a good one!
Death of PC Gaming? 9:17 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News CVG has an article posted up that deals with the question that PC gamers get hit with every now and then. Is PC Gaming dead? The article takes a look at how the next gen consoles have started to produce games that rival the PC standards as well as taking a look at the need to constantly upgrade PC components to be able to run some beastly games. Here's a clip:
"Doom 3 probably sold half of what Doom II did... And I'll bet you that Half- Life 2 sold significantly less than Half-Life, again for that same reason. People take it home, they try it on their PC and think, 'Half-Life worked fine on my old computer'. Guess what? Now you need a GPU to have a decent experience and most people don't have a good one."
The Morning After 9:10 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News Welcome to Monday! Hope you all had a good weekend because it's back to the grind for another 5 days. My main objective for the day is to get up to KFC and get a Famous Bowl or whatever they are called. Have had a hankering for one for a loooong time now and today shall be the day! Actually the starter in my car is shot and there is nothing around my apartment that takes less than 40 minutes to walk to, so it will be quite the journey to get there. Well that's it for me. Don't forget, Heroes tonight!
Mod of the Week - Phantasm 12:46 PST | cyric | Print News | Mail News This weeks Mod of the Week is from the same author BladeGhost who created the Event Horizon mod that was featured last week. This time around the mod focuses on the old and hella creepy movie Phantasm. Some of you youngins may not remember it, but trust me, it was one hell of a good scarefest. The mod does a great job recreating the movie and has the same feeling along with new models, textures and creatures. Check out the article for more info and screens.
