What's Hot...What's Not![ Comment ] Print News | Mail News Last week you all agreed that the online communities were definately HOT! (I know the community is why I love playing Lineage 2..(well cept for those run-in's with Slycutter *shudders*)
Anyway. . moving on ... *grins*
This week we want to pose the question: Is there enough "true fighter" love? I mean, magic and range attacks are great. . but sometimes. . nothing beats getting in someone's face with a sword. But is the payoff for this class balanced with the obvious deficiencies? Let us know. . are fighters HOT or NOT?
Monday, Seri wrapped up her poll on the intensity of Lineage2. Most people voted that it was NOT hot, and Seri agreed, citing a recent article about the harmful RL stress that some people have developed regarding online gaming.
L2Vault was given the honor of not only hosting Stabby's Final Farewell Comic but also an interview with the artist, short video, and the entire Mini-Lineage 2 series of comics! Rich's comic was a great contribution to the L2 community, and we wish him the best of luck in future endeavors.
Cienight of Lionna is this weeks Featured Hero. With almost 2000 PvP kills under his belt, he's a force to contend with!
Expanding the L2 Vault focus on community, Seri and the team recently unveiled their new "Ladies of Lineage" section which showcases some of the incredible women who play Lineage 2. This week she presents: EllChan
Why did you start playing Lineage 2? I originally began playing in closed beta because my boyfriend at the time wanted to review the game for his website. ( http://cad-comic.com *shameless plug lol*) He graciously purchased 2 copies of the game so I could play with him.
What aspect of Lineage 2 do you like the best? Honestly the community is the best part of the game. Lineage is brutal and cold. You have to find companions that you can trust with your life because everyone else is out to stab you in the back.
If you have articles, screenshots, event info, or any L2-related content that you'd like to share with the Lineage 2 community, send it in! Movies, art, wallpapers, articles... you name it! You can send them to us using our convenient submissions page.
Yes, behind a small percentage of those female toons (and even in some male toons) lies a real life lady. Today, we feature EllChan, Bishop of Hindemith!
Know a lady who plays the game and who would be willing to be featured on Lineage 2 Vault? Send me an email at: seridove@vaultnetwork.com!
One of the most incredible aspects of Lineage 2 is the amazing world we get to play in. I'm looking for you to share screenshots of the areas that you find especially beautiful. All you have to do is send them in to Seridove and we'll feature them on the front page of the Lineage 2 Vault.
Sadly, it's time to say goodbye to Stabby McStoo. But before we do, the creator of Stabby, Rich Schleifer sat down with Lineage 2 Vault and answered not only our questions, but answered burning questions thrown his way such as "Will you respect me in the morning!" (compliments of Slycutter)
Check out the entire feature which includes the last comic, the interview, and even a short video of Rich himself!
I think we all can agree that when a game gets out of hand as to cause stress IRL and make people so upset that they log in frustration. . that we need to reassess our goals and perspective in the game we are playing.
Earlier this year the Washington Post ran an article about online gameing and stress:
The situation has grown so acute that 10 South Koreans -- mostly teenagers and people in their twenties -- died in 2005 from game addiction-related causes, up from only two known deaths from 2001 to 2004, according to government officials. Most of the deaths were attributed to a disruption in blood circulation caused by sitting in a single, cramped position for too long -- a problem known as "economy class syndrome," a reference to sitting in an airplane's smallest seats on long flights.
So just be aware of stress and make sure to get out and enjoy the sunshine.
This week, I'd like to turn our focus to the communities that follow MMORPG games. Lineage 2 has a very dedicated community where people make friendships, enemies, listen to the radio, and talk some smack on the message boards.
Do these communities take over our real lives or do they supplement them? Are you finding that you have nothing to talk to your rl friends because. .well. . they dont' understand what "blue wolf" is? We want to know. .
Are the MMORPG communities HOT or NOT? Dont' forget to vote in our poll!

Happy Thanksgiving!![ 1 Comment ] Print News | Mail News | Category: L2Vault News Here in the United States, today is a day where visit with friends and relatives, eat too much turkey, watch football, and give thanks. (And a day off from work doesn't hurt either!)
While this is an American holiday, one thing we all can share and reflect in (no matter where we are from) is being thankful for the great friends, family, and people we know that make our lives all that better for having them in it.
I'm thankful for my family, my staff here (as small as you are. . you are worth more than your weight in gold), Teddy (for giving me this opportunity), LC (for being a great friend), John (no I'm not stalking you) and all my friends (ingame and out). Most importantly, I'm thankful that everyday I wake up I have the opportunity to tackle another day full of work, love, laughter and fun.
Everyone, have a great Thanksgiving. . no matter where you live. And I'll see you all on Friday for the recap.

Google Ad Help[ Comment ] Print News | Mail News | Category: L2Vault News The Vault Network is asking the community to help us preserve our Don't Destroy the Game philosophy and mantra. Our parent company IGN has partnered with the good guys over at Google to run its "Google Ads" across all of IGN's sites, which includes the Vaults. With that comes the chance of Google running a gold seller-type ad that might slip by the existing filter we help set up to ensure these ads are blocked. Because we told Google that these gold farmer type ads suck and don't belong on the Vault Network. They were more than happy to work with us to keep such ads off our sites. So, we will be watching to make sure we remove any that happen to slip through and muck up our stuff!
There is a gold lining to this situation (pun intended!). We have a system in place where any community member can submit an ad they might see via a simple and easy web form. You only need to provide one of two pieces of information: Name of Ad and/or the Link for the Ad -- that's it. Click here to learn more and where to submit.
Fall Harvest Event[ Comment ] Print News | Mail News | Category: Official News That's right. . it's fall and the vines are ripe. And as the US prepares for Thanksgiving, Buzz the Cat is back to help with the fall harvest. This time, Gardener Fordson has invested in new and improved magical seeds, and needs more pollen to successfully harvest his crop.
On November 22nd, the harvesting begins!
The Fall Harvest
Pollen will fall from defeated monsters that are near your level of experience. Trade your stock of pollen to Buzz the Cat for enchanted seeds and grow your own magical squash. After planting a seed, feeding the Young Squash enough pollen will make it grow. You must then break it open to harvest your prize! Hitting a squash before it has fully grown will cause it to wilt from lack of nutrition, so be careful. Also, since these magical squash tend to flee, crack it open before it gets away.
Because of Gardener Fordsons new seeds, Squash Seeds can grow into Low Quality Squash, High Quality Squash, or King Squash. Large Squash Seeds can now turn into one of two types of special squash: Large Squash, or Emperor Squash! These can't be pried open with a regular weapon. Chronicle souvenir weapons must be used, and these large squash require the help of many people in order to break it before it escapes. Chrono Darbukas can be purchased from Buzz the Cat during this event in exchange for your gathered pollen.
Prizes can include potions, armor and weapon enchantment scrolls, soul crystals, and more. Remember, you must work to break the squash open quickly or the squash will vanish.
AUSTIN, Texas, November 20, 2006 FBI Agents working in conjunction with officials from NCsofts® North American business successfully closed down a computer game operation alleged to be reaping profits by providing a fraudulent service to its players. The operation was closed down after multiple raids and interviews were conducted in various cities from California to Virginia.
Federal search warrants were served on owners of L2Extreme who were also questioned during the raid. L2Extreme was providing its users with unauthorized service and code for NCsofts online computer game, Lineage® II. The warrants enabled officials to halt L2Extremes operations while collecting further evidence in the course of the investigation.
The FBI estimates L2Extreme has up to 50,000 active users on its service. NCsoft estimates that monetary losses and damages from the operation are costing NCsoft millions of dollars per year.
L2Extreme advertised on its website, www.l2extreme.com, that more than half million registered users had subscribed to play.
Operations like this essentially are defrauding customers by stealing from companies like NCsoft, said Matt Esber, NCsoft North America general counsel. In the end those losses impact our customer support, product development, operational areas and ultimately they impact our player communities, most of which are trying to play games legitimately. This group in particular was downloading our version of the Lineage II software from our servers, costing us close to a million dollars in realized bandwidth costs during the period it was operational.
Weve taken this action because we strongly believe in defending the intellectual property rights that weve worked so hard to create. Were extremely pleased that the FBI has worked with us so diligently to bring this particular case to its current state and we want our customers to understand that we will continue to fight similar operations in the future in order to maintain the integrity of all NCsoft games.
The investigation into the L2Extreme operation is ongoing.
White_DemonEX started playing Lineage with Lineage 1 and then moved on to Lineage 2 upon it's release. Not only is he bringing his artistic talents to the staff, but is going to be working on our quest section!
This week, we want to ask: Does Lineage 2, by it's very nature, create an enviornment where it just makes the average player way to serious? Do the wars, alliances, and experience grind losses create an atmosphere where we lose sight of the fact that this is a hobby. . a game. . something we shouldn't stress and worry about day in and day out. Heck, do you "log off" just to relax?
What do you think? Do you think it's gone too far? Tell us in our poll.. is the intensity of the game Hot or Not?
Our Window into Aden shows off one of the many images in our Screenshot Gallery. We also had a press release announcing that Lineage II hit over 100k NA active subscribers - an increase to the already staggering 14 million L2 accounts worldwide.
And we had some more eye candy as well this week with...
December - a new calendar created by the VN Art Staff
Fall - a season-themed wallpaper from Prismatic
There were a good number of changes and fixes in this week's maintenance, and the list can be found in our news article here.
If you have work that you'd like to share with the L2 community, send it in! Movies, art, screenshots, articles... you name it! You can send them to us using our convenient submissions page.
That wraps up the week for now, so have a great weekend and enjoy Lineage 2!
