You are an idiot if 0:16 PST | RaptoR | Print News | Mail News ... you kick me off your Xbox Live ranked server because I chainsawed you in the back when you were picking up your favorite weapon.
IGN Music: What drew you to the project? You know, what was special about this project as opposed to some others you have worked on in the past?
Kevin Riepl: While I was working on Unreal Championship2, I was hearing a lot of talk about this game they were creating with the new unbelievable Unreal3 game engine. I saw all the images everyone else did when they were showing off the new engine, and I thought to myself, I want to be part of that and create the music for what ever takes place in that world they were creating. Something that was a bit different about this project from others, was that Epic, who is widely known for their Unreal series, was creating something brand spankin' new. Being a composer, how could you not want to be a part of something like that.
Gears VGA Aspect Ratio Bug Fixed, Possible Patch by Year's End 21:52 PST | redef | Print News | Mail News Mark Rein has provided some updated info concerning a future Gears update. According to his forum post a fix for the aspect ratio squishing under VGA cables issue has been found, and this update (along with others) may be released before the end of December. Heres part of Marks post:
Good news folks. We think we've fixed the VGA aspect ratio issue. This still has to go through testing and then certification but provided we didn't mess anything else up by making this fix it should be in the next update. I can't predict when this update will be released because we're still working on a few other things for the update and, as I said earlier, it needs to go through the cert process. As soon as we have a good idea when that will be, and what ended up making it into this update, we'll publish some information about it on this forum. We hope this will be before the end of the year but we can't know for sure because at some point Microsoft Certification will close down for the holidays.
I would also like to apologize to our VGA cable non-widescreen users that we didn't catch this before the game came out. We used VGA cables quite extensively to drive HD resolution LCD monitors but the monitors we used in-house were widescreen models which, as you probably already know, were not affected by this.
We've added a non-widescreen monitor to our in-house test lab and we'll be sure to test all future Xbox360 releases on that monitor.
Update by RaptoR @ 23:36 PST: Hallelujah! If they can get this fix and the multiplayer connection bug fix out the door before the holidays, it'll be a Merry Christmas for Gears fans!
In my shcool i am studying ancient gods. Sera backwards is Ares, the god of war. Ares represents the planets Mars. See where im going? so do you think that humans had to move to Mars and for some reason now it is called Sera after the god of war?
Also, gears of war, god of war, see the connection?
This is the first of two reviews of Gears of War single-player and multiplayer (plus Co-op) the multiplayer review will come soon after this one, but more so as an extension to this one with an MP basis.
Epics Gears of War (GoW from now for ease of expression) has been called everything short of Halo Killer by sites and gamers alike It sold 1 million copies in 2 weeks It increased Live subscriptions by 50%... and its even predicted to be a 360-selling title.
Its also been called a move forward in its genre by some but since it involves all the regular elements of a shooter guns, bad-ass (anti)heroes and plenty of blood-spatter - what could make a seemingly regular shooter so good? Well it just does everything so damn well in every aspect, and its better than Epic have ever done so far..
This is why Gears of War is an amazing game: I played for five and a half hours without interruption, and I only stopped because I had to be somewhere. Its that fun.
Gears may not offer up anything particularly groundbreaking, but what it does give is a shooter so fine-tuned that it feels like second nature to play. Everything about it screams perfection.
There's been a lot of buzz this week about the future of Gears of War - with it apparently accidentally slipping out that Gears was planned to be a trilogy, and Mark Rein saying that Gears could go on to rival Mario as a franchise. In the meantime, the first Gears of War game has just sold a metric assload of copies in its first few weeks, and looks to continue in that manner leading up to the holidays.
In unrelated news, I picked up a copy of the "next-gen" Sonic the Hedgehog game yesterday, more out of morbid curiousity than anything. It is truly an abysmal game, and represents one more addition on the list of Crimes Against Gaming Commited by SEGA (other entries on this list include the NiGHTS Into Dreams Soundtrack and the 32X). Not even the Sonic 2006 plot's hilarious descent towards and beyond self-parody can save it from being a showcase in bad game design and worse level design that leaves you wanting to brutally murder each one of the main cast of characters.
Make no mistake, there's only one game called "Sonic the Hedgehog" that's worth playing, and it was released fifteen years ago.
And now back to your scheduled Gears of War... stuff...
