And So It Begins...
21:04 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News
November 19, 2006 will be remembered as a landmark day in the history of video games. It marks the first day that all consoles in a generation were available. The Nintendo Wii has been released in the USA. You can now buy a Wii, PS3 or XBOX 360.

Today not only begins a new generation of hardware, but more importantly...a new generation of games. Developers know they need to push the boundaries...no wait...they need to destroy the boundaries and begin to create original gameplay and come up with compelling storylines. They have new tools, both graphical and physical. All eyes are on them. More specifically, our eyes are on Rockstar Games. October 16, 2007 brings Grand Theft Auto IV. Are you ready?

Note: No Nintendo Wii version of GTA IV has been announced.

2nd GTA IV Console Released
13:53 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News
Sony's PlayStation 3 was released earlier this morning in the USA and other areas following the initial Japan release days earlier. Now, both video game systems that will be able to play Grand Theft Auto IV have been released. But is now the time to buy?

Prices are high. Microsoft's XBOX 360 is $400 if you want the good version. The core version is $300. Sony's PlayStation 3 is $500 or $600 depending on which you decide to buy. Price drops are inevitable, but will we see them before October 2007 when the game launches? Perhaps for Microsoft, but probably not for Sony.

To take one opinion (mine), I am waiting. If I were to buy today, and taking in that price, gameplay and fun factor have always been important factors in my console buying decision-making, Microsoft clearly has the edge. With more than 100 titles already out, a lower price and a clearly-established online network (XBOX Live), my current choice is clear. Also, the only truly confirmed episodic content for the game will be on the XBOX 360. The news claiming that the PS3 will also have episodic content is still considered as rumors, although probably true.

However, I may change my mind. We all need to let Sony establish a library of games and watch for hardware bugs in the early months. For the record, I owned a PlayStation 2 in the last console cycle, but not a XBOX or Gamecube, so there is no fanboyism at work here. In addition, I am planning on buying a Nintendo Wii after being thoroughly impressed by playing several games myself at E3 back in May. Whatever you decide to do, remember to make smart buying decisions. Don't let any past fanboyism control you. We're GTA fans...not pathetic console fanboys.

New Grand Theft Auto IV Details
11:35 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News
In a very brief statement regarding the highly-anticipated next-gen title Grand Theft Auto IV at the Interactive Entertainment Conference 2006, Take-Two Interactive Software's Paul Eibeler (President & CEO) used the following words regarding the release of episodic content:
"maximize revenue streams"
In other words, the episodic content will most likely not be free. He also refrained from clarifying that the episodic content would be only on XBOX 360, perhaps shying away from saying so due to the recent widespread rumors that Sony's PlayStation 3 would also have episodic content.

Now is it a surprise that the episodic content will not be free? Some may say they never had a doubt that it would cost something, while others would claim they thought it would be free. This puts that argument to rest.

Newly-Discovered Features in San Andreas
13:47 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News
Brett Schwartz has the right to talk about gaming. Sure, he hasn't bought a video game in twenty years, but that shouldn't stop him from using his expert opinion on Binghamton University's publication called Pipe Dream. Schwartz claims to have had this 1-on-1 conversation with someone last week:
Friend: "Bro, you’ll never guess what happened to me this afternoon …"

B.S.: "Tell me!"

Increasingly Retarded Friend: "Well, there I was, chillin’ by the supermarket, when all of a sudden the police started shooting at me."

B.S.: "What?! Are you kidding? Explain …"

Very Retarded Friend: "Yeah, so I hijacked this pregnant lady’s pickup truck just as the pigs started moving in, I ran down a hooker and crashed the car right into the lake. After that, I set the elementary school on fire, shanked the mayor and left town right as the FBI helicopters were getting off the ground. Luckily, I made it back just in time for economics class."
Brett then explains that his friend was talking about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Is Brett's friend institutionalized? I don't know, but let's translate his story into real GTA terms:
Brett's friend was standing around by Supa Save in San Fierro trying to figure out if he could do anything cool with the shopping carts when all of a sudden, a bug that does not exist in San Andreas where police randomly want to kill you triggered. B.S.'s friend then saw a fat lady and assumed she was pregnant even though there are no pregnant women in the game...or babies...

He carjacked the fat lady as the psychotic cops closed in on his character. He then decided to randomly run down a pedestrian that may or may not have been a hooker, but let's go ahead and say it was a hooker since it sounds worse. To finish off the truck, he randomly drove all the way out to the countryside to find a lake to crash in to.

Then, B.S.'s friend went back to his safe house, saved and then quit the game. Following that, he opened up a 3D modeling program to make an elementary school since there is not already one in the game. He then placed the "school" in the game and used his flamethrower to torch the building. Of course, the fire department in the game drove up and estinguished the flames on the amateur box-shaped model of the "school" with no modeled characters "inside."

He then shanked (to hit with the heel of a club, causing to veer in the wrong direction) the mayor with the amazing physics that are exclusive to his copy of the game. Then, he managed to "leave town" and all of the police at level 5 (FBI) stopped chasing him for no reason whatsoever. Lastly, he quit the game and then went to his PS2 to play some Bully where he entered his economics class.
Brett asks this question in his article: "Would you believe me if I told you I actually had this exact conversation last week? I kid you not, dear readers." My answer to that is "no" and a complimentary punch in the face. It's articles like this one where politicians and lawyers get their information on the Grand Theft Auto games, and I'm just continually trying to expose this complete display of idiocy.

Vice City Stories Gameplay Tips
9:22 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News
GamerHelp.com has put up a few tips to help you out with your skills on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Here is one of them:

A Flying Deathtrap: The first rule of air travel is that what goes up must come down. Sailing over trouble in a chopper is lots of fun, but you'll have to land it somewhere, and that might not turn out to be the most convenient of locations (especially since a hovering helicopter is a stationary target). Sometimes it's easier to take the low road and drive to your destination.
Check out more tips here.

Gamesradar UK Changes Review and Score for VCS
11:19 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News
By now, gamers across North America are enjoying revisiting the 80's for the second time in the ninth Grand Theft Auto game: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. However, there's something fishy going on over at Gamesradar UK.

On October 27, the UK website posted their review of the game, giving it a score of 8 out of 10, listing the pros "helicopters, solid GTA action and incredible radio stations." The pros in the altered/changed/edited review are "a massive city in your pocket, amazing soundtrack, and GTA's brilliant gameplay." Those new pros sound like nice quotes to see in a TV commercial for the game, don't they?

Here were the cons from the old review: "retarded AI allies, the constant loading, and we've seen it before." The cons from the new review read as "playing very familiar missions, frequent loading to retry, and the aging game engine."

The score for the game was changed to a 9 out of 10. Why was the review changed? Why was the score changed? What is going on here? I'm not going to contact the website about the incident because I think they should explain it to us without the need for a request.

I have found the first page from the original review. To see the original first page and the new first page, click below on "Read More..." and feel free to add your comments in the "Discuss/Comment!" area.
