Lineage 2 Vault -- L2 Boards: What's Hot..What's Not!

Monday, 6 November, 2006 - Lineage 2 Vault -- L2 News

  What's Hot..What's Not!  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News

Last week we asked you your opinion on events where rewards for PvP combat through special skills would be rewarded. 9 out of 10 voters agreed that something like that would be HOT!

This week, we want to tackle the topic of voice programs such as Teamspeak and Ventrilo.

In the realm of MMO games, voice programs are becoming more and more predominant if not almost a requirement to play. When joining a group, many looking for PvP action refuse to group someone who doesn't have the ability to at least listen.

But are these voice programs hurting the MMORPG community? Many feel that it ruins the intent and immersion that online roleplay games advertise.

What do you think? Are voice programs and their application to MMORPG games such as Lineage 2 HOT or NOT! Make sure to vote!

L2Vault Week in Review

The week kicked off with the final days of the "From Beyond" seasonal event, which prompted Seri to question "If you could build your own event... what would it be?"

The Featured Hero this week is Emina, the L79 Arcane Lord(ess?) from the Kain Server. You can also browse through our archived Featured Heroes collection HERE.

ruhi2 turned some concept art into a calendar, so if you are looking for a desktop calendar or just like piratical pictures, check out the November wallpaper! Resolutions available: 1024x768, 1280x960, 1280x1024, and 1600x1200.

And while we're on the topic of pictures, this screenshot shows off some of the fireworks from this past event. It's one of the many amazing images in our L2Vault Scrreenshot Collection.

A great event and some great images this week! Have a wonderful weekend, all!

Where Earthquakes rumble. . fireworks follow! Thanks to Earthquake from Devianne for allowing me to capture him as he displayed the fireworks he got from the Halloween Event.

One of the most incredible aspects of Lineage 2 is the amazing world we get to play in. I'm looking for you to share screenshots of the areas that you find especially beautiful. All you have to do is send them in to Seridove and we'll feature them on the front page of the Lineage 2 Vault.

  What's Hot...What's Not!  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: L2Vault News

Last week we took a look at the events that happen frequently in the world of Aden. In fact, we're smack dab in the middle of a Halloween Event now! *scurries off to find pumpkins and candy* In our poll, a little over half of those who voted said that the events were "Hot!".

While I sometimes have to wonder about the overall "usefulness" of some of the events, I have to agree that they make the world a little more fun filled and dynamic. Killing mobs and feeling that little bit of excitment and wonder if they are going to drop a special item resembles that of opening Christmas presents on Christmas Day.

All you have to do is look around at the myriad of games out there that have static content to appreciate the injections of dynamic play that Lineage 2 offers.

This week, we want to build on the event theme and ask you. . if you could build your own event. . what would it be? Hit the comment tag at the top to visit our forums and let us know what you would do!

And don't forget to visit our poll, where I want your feedback on pvp reward event!

This week's featured hero is Airu, a level 78 Sagittarius from the bartz server.

This week, we have another great wallpaper in a range of resolutions, called Dark Goddess. Very nice design and plenty of clean space for icons. We also have this week's "window into Aden" - an image of a Dark Elf standing beside her Unicorn.

Good news earlier this week, as the recent patch removed item drop on death for nonchaotic characters. That was one of several death/combat changes added in the Tuesday patch. The Halloween Event began Oct 26 and will run until the end of Oct 31. Remember that on the 31st, there will be Halloween Boss Monsters, and all through the event will be candy, costumes, and prizes!

Have a great weekend, all!

  RPG Roundtable #6 - Part 1  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: News

Check out RPG Vault, as they kick off a special multi-part Roundtable feature in which groups of developers share their perspectives on a particular topic.

This time, D.W. Bradley (Wizardry series et al), Ferret Baudoin (Dragon Age), Alexander Mishulin (Nival Interactive), Jan Beuck (Legend: Hand of God) and Jeff Vogel (Geneforge series et al) look at how some gamers compare today's RPGs with the classics.

RPG Roundtable #6 - Part 1
We invite a group of developers to comment on a very familiar phrase, "They don't make RPGs like they used to"

They may be dark elves, but they still possess the magic that attracts the mythical unicorns of Enchanted Valley. Perhaps someday soon, you will see the people of Aden riding unicorn into battle!

  Halloween Events!  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: News

From October 26th through October 31st, look for creepy and crawly things to be popping up all over Aden. Here are a few highlights of the festivities:

  • The Halloween Event begins Oct 26 and runs until the end of Oct 31.
NOTE: The event begins on Oct 26, 2006 with a variety of event specific monsters spawning throughout the world in random locations. As the event progresses, more monsters of varying types will invade Aden, as well as a variety of "traps" (including poison traps and spike traps!).

  • Halloween spawns will reach a crescendo on Tuesday, Oct 31 with a variety of Halloween Event "Boss" monsters.

  • Halloween specific items will drop from a variety of NPCs, such as candies and pumpkins. The candies will all have a random effect.

  • Bronze, silver, and gold pumpkins can be "opened" for a special prize! (Silver are better than bronze, gold are better than silver).

  • Several restricted or limited "costumes" or polymorph options will be available, such as the Vampire morph.

Dont' forget, between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM CDT today, all servers will be down for maintenance, patching, and setting the state for the new event. Want to know what's new? Keep reading!
    Changes to Player Death Penalties

The following changes have been made to death penalties of player characters.

  • Unchaotic character: No items are dropped at death.

  • Chaotic character: Items are dropped at a lower rate than before. PK count still determines item drops, while Karma influences susceptibility to the combat penalty.
When characters die, they will now receive a penalty of reduced combat capability at a certain rate (about the same rate as the previous item drop rate).

The penalty for death is applied cumulatively. If you die again after the penalty has been applied, the new penalty is applied on top of the existing penalty.

The penalty can be viewed in the Status window and it has a permanent duration.

You can recover your combat capability level by using Scroll: Recovery items. There are recovery scrolls for each level and each character must use one appropriate for his level (per expertise skill). Chaotic characters cannot use recovery scrolls.

You can also recover your combat capability level through Black Judge NPCs for a fee, including chaotic characters. The Black Judges are in Floran Village, the Wastelands, and Hardin's Academy.

Charms of Luck have been changed to have the effect of preventing this new penalty to combat capability.

      What's Hot...What's Not!  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: News

Last week we brought up the alliance/clan structure in Lineage 2. .and over 75% of those who answered our poll said "It's HOT!" and I have to agree. With the changes in the clan structure and transferrable leadership and the ability to level your clan up to get a higher membership base, it's making the clan system more rewarding.

Don't forget, tomorrow alliances with more than 3 clans in them will be forcibly reformed. This means that only the first three clans to join the alliance will remain, the rest will find themselves packing! So if you are a procrastinator, today's your LAST DAY!

This week, there's been much buzz about the event "From Beyond" which starts tomorrow (see news post below). But, are these events really helping the community (and the economy)? Are they just sucking the adena out of the game to increase the demand on the "farmers"? Or are they effectively balancing the economy? Check out our poll and tell us: Are the events HOT or NOT?

Official Lineage 2 Event: "From Beyond"  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: News

Evil spirits and demons abound on the week before All Hallow's Eve and you aren't even safe in the world of Aden! Starting tomorrow, the newest event "From Beyond" begins.

Omega, a skilled and experienced fighter, has been captured by the leader of an undead legion of warriors. The leader of the undead has demanded a ransom for the return of Omega, and Omega’s faithful servant has traveled to the villages of Aden and Elmore to gain support for the return of her master.

For a fee of 50,000 adena, you can purchase a Coffer of Shadows from Omega’s Cat. These mysterious containers can reveal Demon Horns or the Mask of Spirits, special head accessory items from the netherworld. The coffer might also reveal a Mystery Potion, Firecrackers, or a Large Firecracker. Extremely lucky adventurers might also find a stage 11 or 12 Soul Crystal inside. Good luck!

As an aside, I have a good friend, Omegadus, who has been "missing" lately from the Lineage 2 world. . . well I guess I now know where he is. .the question is. . do I really want to pay the ransom!!!??? *grins michieviously*
