THP8 Current-Gen Screenshots

I haven't seen these at all, so many thanks go out to Wagugu for the link!

It seems that Computer & Video Games has a Xbox Preview from June! The article covers the Shaba version of THP8 which is coming out on the PS2, PSP and Xbox next month. It also contains 8 screenshots! Adding to our little preview from the other day, here are some details that we didn't quite know! It looks to be more 'back to basics', the cliché term really coming to fruition here, as many were looking for after the last few games. It's a good read, and one I'd been looking for. Many thanks for the link!

THP8 Spot Challenge Blog

Something I covered in the Hands-On Preview was a new addition to THP8 called the Spot Challenge. Split into 3 difficulty levels (Am/Pro/Sick), this should provide a good learning curve for any Hawk gamer. Am will be enough for newbies, sick will be just plain sick, even for vets.

IGN's Spot Challenge Blog is written up by Allen Freese, the goal lead on THP8. It's a cool description, with images, on how this all works. I look forward to this element of the newest Hawk title, and this little article should help fuel the excitement as the release date approaches.

THP8 Current-Gen Speculations

The game ships in a month and we haven't seen even a screenshot of the PS2/Xbox/PSP version of THP8. That's kinda curious, isn't it? Not to steal any thunder away from the next-gen versions, Activision hasn't said a word about this incarnation of Hawk #8. In fact, the only thing we know is that it's being developed by Shaba.

So, without an iota of information, we've worked up a Preview/Speculaion Page on what to expect. With a number of emails asking about it, it should answer some lingering questions as to what to expect.

This new article was a joint effort with a new member of PTH, and one I'm excited to announce. He'll be helping out over the next few months and hopefully become a permanent member of the site. Dom will be writing more and updating the pages shortly enough, as there are some big changes coming to PTH. Much like Activision, I'm not going to say a word as to what it all is about, but by the time THP8 and THDJ ships, things should be a little bit different around here! We'll see, but until then, enjoy the preview and welcome Dom to the fold!

Another Motion Capture Movie

The 5th entry into the motion capture sessions features Paul Rodriguez. Available in 2 sizes, this movie is just like the others and shows Paul suiting up in the studio, showing exactly how things were put together. Another cool video, this can be found in the THP8 Movies Page!

Release Date Updates

As October nears, we're just about there! Within the next 5 weeks, 8 new Tony Hawk games will be sitting on store shelves. I took a quick peek over at EBgames to see what they had listed as the latest US release dates. Here's what I found!

24 October - NDS, GBA (THDJ)
07 November - PSP, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox360 (THP8)
14 November - Wii (THDJ)

Of course, the PS3 doesn't launch till the 17th of November, but you could buy the game early, it seems. The same goes for the Wii, with the launch dated for the 19th of November and the release of THDJ 5 days prior.

Also note suggested pricing (may vary):

$29.99 - GBA
$34.99 - NDS
$39.99 - PSP $49.99 - PS2, Xbox, Wii
$59.99 - PS3, Xbox360

Start saving up! In addition to all this, there are going to be some cool changes and additions here on PTH which I'm very excited about. This should be the best launch in several years.

Oh! One final thing! While these dates are all for the US, Davey Wallis wrote me from Belgium telling me that Sony & Microsoft's games should ship on the 30th of November, with the NDS version of THDJ on the 31st of October. These are unofficial dates, and may only cater to Belgium, but perhaps this extends to the rest of Europe as well! Thanks!

New THP8 / THDJ Videos

Had troubles uploading the new THP8 video. Took me a day to get that sorted. The new motion capture video features Ryan Sheckler and is better than the last IMO. This has been uploaded to the THP8 Movies page. Took forever to get that fixed, so this news should've been posted yesterday.

I also got the THDJ Movies pages updated. Here are 2 new movies, one gameplay movie (showing the player's hands), and one location showcase. These are pretty cool movies. Like all the recent movies, there are several versions, higher res and lower, all in quicktime. Check them out and sorry for the delay!!!

THP8 - PS3 Online?

Much like many of you, I was shocked to read the news that the PS3 version of THP8 would ship without online play. This would be bad news considering the popularity of the online element of the Hawk series.

However, the news is more shocking b/c I didn't hear any word of this myself. While we all realize Sony is lacking a proper online strategy, I didn't hear any words from Neversoft or Activision indicating that this was the case. In fact, I was under the impression that an online concept was in place, but little was shared about the PS3 at all.

Until official word comes out, I am hesitant to accept this as news. We'll see in the coming weeks, no doubt!

Preview Roundup

I wasn't the only one lucky enough to get to play the new build of THP8 this week, and all the other online sites have their respective previews as well. For the most part, we all cover the same things, but it's always good to get another viewpoint! Here are the links!

THP8 Hands-On Preview

Earlier this week I flew out to Los Angeles to check out the latest build of Tony Hawk's Project 8 for the Xbox360 and PS3. With some dedicated hands-on time, I was able to dive deep into all the systems of the game, the new features and got a glimpse of what's changed. Perhaps you've read the previews on other sites, but as always, I've tried to give a super detailed view catering to the hardcore Hawk fanbase. With some fantastic upgrades and phenomenal graphics and physics, I'm very excited about this game's release in early November.

Read the full preview here, complete w/ some new screenshots! Enjoy, and let me know what you think!

THP8: Motion Capture Video #3

Dustin Dollin is the featured skater in the third entry into the Motion Capture video series. Less compelling than the others, this shows Dustin in the studio performing moves for his part of the motion capture process. He joins Bob Burnquist and Stevie Williams and you can check out 2 versions of the movie here!

Even More X-Game Videos

The latest set of videos from this year's X-Games are here. These all contain skating vids captured from Noe V himself, atop the huge HP. Like the others, all are 320x240, quicktime, and segmented into 30-second snippets. I've zipped them up, and here you go!!!
